- Develop and maintain Tactical, Strategic, Administrative and Operational analytical capabilities. Conduct statistical, strategic, and tactical crime analyses and plans, identifying current crime series and hot spots. Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual, and on-request reports.
- Respond to ad-hoc requests for data and reports from all levels and units of the department. Provide information to police and city administration for decision making purposes, present analysis, and statistics in various internal and external forums. Provide a forecast of trends to aid in staffing and deployment of police personnel.
- Perform confidential analytical work in the review, examination, and compilation of highly sensitive and complex data regarding criminal activities and investigations.
- Develop and maintain highly complex databases, maps, charts, and reports utilizing state of the art spreadsheet, database, GIS mapping and link analysis software applications.
- Create maps, tables, charts, and graphs and perform analysis to demonstrate relationships between entities and events.
- Conduct weekly, monthly, annual, and on-request briefings and presentations of analytical findings and conclusions utilizing prepared maps, tables, charts, and graphs indicating criminal trends and provide analysis and explanations for these trends, as well as other correlations and indicators.
- Develop statistical data resources to assist in proactive and targeted investigations, preventative enforcement, and education, identify crime patterns, trends, and criminal organizations, and identify known and repeat offenders.
- Recognize and identify conditions, trends, and patterns in area of specialization.
- Create clearly written and effective reports and bulletins and other analytical products.
- Monitor local, regional, and national crime trends. Forecast criminal trends based on computer analyses of current and past criminal activity.
- Attend regional meetings of law enforcement personnel and other conferences to share information on crime series, patterns, new methodologies, and developing tools.
- Acts as liaison between local, state, tribal, or federal agencies and groups.
- Collect and organize criminal information from all available resources including the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), field interview reports, intelligence sources, other agencies, and media. Crime bulletins: review of crime reports and supplements, informational surveys, and retrieval of crime information to study and analyze past and existing crime series patterns and trends.
- Analyze known offenders' MO's and establish timelines to perform suspect / crime correlation to provide suspect leads and targets for surveillance or directed patrol.
- Fosters positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis.
- Oversee the website administration for investigative tools utilized by the department.
- Monitors the Real Time Crime Center workstation while monitoring and viewing multiple computer/camera screens.
- Receives, evaluates, and transmits information via telephone, computer, and multi-channel radio, frequently involving emergency and critical situations affecting human welfare and safety.
- Subject to work overtime, being held over or called back to work for disasters, local emergencies, or special events.
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Behavioral or Social Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Geographic Information Systems or a closely related field; and
- Three (3) years of satisfactory full-time experience in the analysis and/or research of data related to crime, criminals, criminal intelligence, and/or other social sciences in a police, judicial, or other criminal justice setting.
- A passing score on pre-employment test.
Analyst Academy

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Behavioral or Social Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Geographic Information Systems or a closely related field; and preferably one of the following:
- One (1) year of satisfactory full-time experience in the analysis and/or research of data related to crime, criminals, criminal intelligence, and/or other social sciences in a police, judicial, or other criminal justice setting; or
- Post-graduate studies from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Behavioral or Social Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Geographic Information Systems or a closely related field.
- A passing score on pre-employment test.
Because of the confidential and sensitive name of information handled, successful completion of a polygraph and background investigation is required. Knowledge of principles and application of mathematics, statistics and logic. Ability to research principles and techniques such as quantitative and qualitative analysis. Knowledge of principles and practices of professional and technical writing. Knowledge of basic police methods and procedures along with modern office practices and procedures. Knowledge of general computer functions and PC computer software applications. Ability to manage and prioritize routine, specialized and complex assignments and problems utilizing knowledge acquired through prior education, training, and experience. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to adapt to an evolving and continually improving environment. Requires demonstrated ability to utilize personal computer and office software such as MS Word, MS Excel and electronic mail.
