Job Description

With a statewide staff of more than 800 auditors and other professionals, the Auditor of State's office is responsible for auditing all public offices in Ohio, (nearly 6,000 entities). This includes cities, counties, villages, townships and schools. 

What will you be doing?

The Auditor of State Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is comprised of Forensic Accountants, Investigators and Attorneys as a single source of expertise for investigating fraud in government. Their experience allows them to take a case from an initial complaint through conclusion. 

The Senior Economic Crimes Counselor will:

  1. Serve as Special Prosecutor when requested by county prosecutor, present cases to Grand Juries, prepare discovery, attend pretrial conferences and motions hearings, interview trial witnesses, and prepare case for trial.
  2. Provide legal and investigative advice to SIU staff. Review and approve case files.
  3. Review and give instructions on complaints received by AOS Fraud Hotline
  4. Conduct legal research, analyze audit findings, draft legal memorandum
  5. Review and sign subpoenas, review search warrants and affidavits
  6. Perform other duties as assigned

What we’re looking for:

  1. Admission to Ohio Bar

  2. Knowledge of substantive and procedural law and Westlaw computerized legal research

  3. Strong legal writing skills

  4. Interpersonal communication

  5. Judicial clerkship and similar experience preferred

Experience Range: 10 Years

Experience as a prosecutor (or relevant courtroom experience) required; experience with white collar, economic crimes and fraud cases preferred.
