Job Description

The Sommelier at Sorelle delivers exceptional guest experiences through expert wine service, dining room leadership, and collaboration with culinary and service teams. This role supports operational excellence, colleague development, and the consistent execution of Sorelle’s standards of hospitality.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Represent Sorelle’s culture, values, and standards with professionalism and integrity.

  • Provide warm, attentive, and personalized service to all guests.

  • Maintain immaculate dining room and service station organization.

  • Demonstrate teamwork, efficiency, attention to detail, and accountability.

  • Maintain thorough knowledge of menus, wine offerings, and service standards.

  • Communicate effectively with guests, colleagues, and leadership.

  • Identify opportunities to enhance service, operations, and team performance.

  • Recommend, present, and serve wine according to Sorelle service standards.

  • Maintain wine cellar organization, inventory accuracy, and product quality.

  • Guide guests through menu and wine selections with confidence and professionalism.

  • Anticipate guest needs, dietary restrictions, and special requests.

  • Monitor guest satisfaction and resolve service opportunities promptly.

  • Support overall dining room operations and service flow.

  • Collaborate closely with Front and Back of House teams.

  • Assist with greeting, seating, food delivery, and tableside service as needed.

  • Ensure consistent execution of food, beverage, and hospitality standards.

  • Support VIP experiences and special service procedures.

  • Lead ongoing wine education and product knowledge training.

  • Train and mentor new colleagues during onboarding.

  • Contribute to pre-shift meetings and menu education.

  • Support leadership in coaching and developing service team performance.

  • Follow all restaurant policies, service procedures, and safety standards.

  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.

  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and labor regulations.

  • Complete operational communication and reporting as required.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Advanced knowledge of wine, food pairing, and fine dining service.

  • Ability to confidently describe menus and make thoughtful recommendations.

  • Proficiency with POS systems and basic computer applications.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Professional appearance and adherence to Sorelle grooming standards.

  • Commitment to teamwork, hospitality excellence, and continuous learning

  • 3–4 yearsof fine dining or sommelier experience required.

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive dining room experience preferred.

  • Extensive food and wine knowledge.

  • MS Level II Certification preferred.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum legal age to serve alcohol.

  • Strong professionalism, organization, and team orientation.

  • Ability to operate POS and Microsoft-based systems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a colleague to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds regularly.

  • Ability to push or pull equipment with assistance.

  • Ability to bend, reach, and work efficiently in confined service spaces.

  • Ability to work in varied temperatures including kitchens and storage areas.

  • Continuous visual, verbal, and auditory engagement required for guest service.
