Job Description

Purpose. Performance. People.

Joining CPP Investments means joining one of the world’s most admired and respected institutional investors to drive a single mandate: to deliver strong, sustainable returns for generations of Canadians.

With a long-term horizon and global reach, we deploy capital at scale across public and private markets. Our size, stability, and disciplined investment philosophy allow us to pursue complex opportunities and build enduring partnerships worldwide.

For our people, this means meaningful work with tangible impact, real opportunity, and collaboration with exceptional colleagues who value partnership and performance. Here, you’ll contribute to outcomes that matter alongside team members committed to excellence and shared success.

Role Summary:

External data is a critical input into investment decision-making at CPP Investments. The quality, cost, and accessibility of that data directly influence how effectively teams can source opportunities, assess risk, and execute strategies across the Fund.
As Director, Data Scouting, you will lead the capability responsible for how the firm sources, governs, and manages external data. You will shape supplier strategy, lead complex commercial negotiations, and ensure consistent and well-governed practices. You will act as a trusted partner to investment teams and enterprise functions, influencing data investment decisions and driving greater transparency, efficiency, and value from the firm’s external data spend.

Accountabilities & Qualifications:

External Data Portfolio Management

  • Align and continuously improve external data offerings to business needs, identifying opportunities to improve value, reduce duplication, and strengthen portfolio efficiency
  • Establish transparency into external data spend and usage, enabling informed decision-making and effective cost management
  • Provide strategic guidance to business partners on data sourcing options, vendor capabilities, and commercial structures
  • Shape and challenge data investment decisions to improve value-for-money and ensure disciplined sourcing practices

Contract Management

  • Lead evaluation, analysis, and negotiation of large and complex data contracts across multiple business units, ensuring optimal value-for-money
  • Act as the central control point for all third-party data contracts, ensuring consistency, compliance, and risk management
  • Identify and execute cost savings and avoidance opportunities through contract reviews, product substitution, and firm-wide consolidation
  • Own strategic vendor relationships, including ongoing performance management, governance, and engagement with key suppliers

People Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of market data professionals
  • Build strong relationships across the organization, including with senior stakeholders, and use influence and coaching to drive alignment and embed scalable processes that enable sustained change.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading market data, vendor management, or sourcing functions in complex environments
  • Proven track record negotiating high-value, complex commercial agreements
  • Strong commercial judgement and cost management discipline
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and shape decisions without direct authority
  • Deep understanding of data vendor landscape and market practices
  • Experience building and leading high-performing teams
  • CFA/CAIA designation or equivalent investment domain knowledge is an asset

You are motivated to contribute to something larger than yourself, approach complex challenges with rigor, and hold yourself to high standards in a collaborative, performance-driven environment.
