Diagnostic Laboratory Assistant

The Part-Time Lab Assistant supports diagnostic and feed testing operations within Carthage Diagnostic Laboratory. This role is responsible for assisting with sample processing, data entry, laboratory organization, and quality control procedures, while supporting feed analysis including particle size and Near-Infrared (NIR) testing.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with sample prep, processing, and analysis following standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Support diagnostic testing procedures, including PCR and ELISA, as trained
• Assist with feed testing procedures: particle size analysis and NIR testing 
• Help maintain lab equipment and ensure QC standards, help to find QC samples.
• Follow safety and biosecurity protocols when handling chemicals and biological materials 

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and protocols
• Willingness to learn laboratory techniques and feed testing procedures
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Professional communication and customer service mindset
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Work performed in a laboratory setting with exposure to biological materials, chemicals, and feed samples
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to life and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Ability to work varied hours based on the laboratory needs
