We're looking for a Senior Manager, Training & Capability Development, a strategic leader with experience in manufacturing, learning & development, workforce capability, and change management. This role ensures rapid, measurable skill acquisition across manufacturing and support functions while reinforcing a values-based environment that strengthens employee connection, engagement, and retention. The leader will build and own a scalable, data-driven training discipline that aligns workforce capability with business demand, quality requirements, and operational excellence standards—particularly within regulated medical device manufacturing environments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Training System Design & Ownership:
Architect and operationalize a dual-delivery training model:
Manufacturing associates as embedded trainers (peer-based skill transfer, real-time coaching, experiential learning)
Dedicated professional trainers enabling structured learning, certification rigor, and instructional quality
Define and own training system standards, including:
Training design principles and structure
Qualification, certification, and re-certification frameworks
Training documentation and audit readiness requirements
Establish clear accountability for training outcomes across operations and training roles
Ensure alignment with:
Quality system requirements (FDA, ISO)
Business performance objectives (capacity, yield, scalability)
Capability Development & Skill Acceleration
Build frameworks for rapid skill acquisition and progression, including:
Structured onboarding journeys
Role-based competency matrices
Progressive certification models tied to skill mastery
Enable manufacturing associates to function effectively as trainers by:
Providing structured skill transfer methods
Defining standard work for on-the-job training
Supporting coaching effectiveness and consistency
Deploy professional trainers to:
Increase training rigor and consistency
Accelerate learning for complex or critical processes
Reduce time-to-proficiency while maintaining strict quality and compliance standards
Manage a team as the program is being develop to scale
Partner with Operations to align training to:
Production ramp requirements
Workforce capacity plans
New product introduction (NPI)
Training Delivery Model & Execution Discipline
Establish a scalable training execution model combining:
Associate-led experiential learning embedded in daily work
Trainer-led structured learning and validation
Define standard work for:
Training delivery and documentation
Skill validation and certification
Trainee progression and readiness tracking
Ensure effective coordination between:
Manufacturing associates providing day-to-day training
Professional trainers ensuring structure, consistency, and quality
Learning Systems, Data & Analytics
Own and optimize the training technology ecosystem, including LMS and skill tracking systems
Establish a data-driven training discipline with metrics such as:
Time-to-proficiency
Certification and skill attainment rates
Skill coverage vs. production demand
Training effectiveness (quality, yield, productivity indicators)
Integrate training data with:
Workforce planning
Production and capacity systems
Quality metrics
Use analytics to continuously refine both associate-led and trainer-led training effectiveness
Culture, Engagement & Retention Through Training
Embed company values into all aspects of the training experience
Leverage the peer-based training model to:
Strengthen team cohesion and belonging
Reinforce cultural norms through daily interactions
Ensure training systems support:
Clear career pathways and advancement opportunities
Increased retention in critical operator and technical roles
Design training as both a capability engine and a cultural reinforcement mechanism
Leadership, Stakeholder Alignment & Change Management
Serve as the enterprise owner of the training system, driving alignment across:
Operations leadership (Value Stream, Manufacturing, Quality)
HR and Talent functions
Continuous Improvement / Lean teams
Lead the transition to a shared training ownership model:
Manufacturing associates as capability builders
Professional trainers as enablers of structure and rigor
Drive mindset shift from training as a support activity to training as a core operational system
Build capability within both:
Manufacturing associate population (as trainers)
Training professionals (as system enablers and experts)
Supervises: Training Supervisors and Training Specialists
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
Minimum of 7 years of experience in: Manufacturing training systems, workforce capability, or operations leadership
Demonstrated success implementing structured, scalable training systems in regulated environments
Deep understanding of:
On-the-job and peer-based training models
Competency-based development frameworks
FDA / ISO / compliance-driven training requirements
Experience in medical devices, life sciences, or similarly regulated manufacturing
Preferred:
Experience designing hybrid training models combining peer-led and professional-led delivery
Familiarity with LMS platforms and digital training tools
Lean / Six Sigma certification
Experience in global manufacturing environments
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
B2+ English required.
Computer literacy is required, experience with ERP systems, MS office package (Windows, excel, word, outlook) and basic computer configuration.
