About the role
The Senior Obligations Compliance Officer role will oversee and strengthen compliance and integrity capability across the department.
In this role, you will provide trusted advice, lead improvement initiatives and help foster a strong culture of compliance, integrity, transparency and accountability across all levels of the department.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintain and strengthen the departments legislative compliance frameworks, registers, policies and procedures to support organisational governance and regulatory adherence.
- Conduct compliance reviews related to integrity declarations.
- Conduct compliance activities, intelligence gathering and risk control investigations to uplift maturity.
- Support audit, risk and annual compliance reporting requirements, including data and integrity breach reporting.
- Monitor emerging compliance trends to identify and drive opportunities for innovation and improvement and strengthen compliance culture across the department.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of key internal and external stakeholders to build engagement and commitment to compliance.
- Prepare high-quality reports, briefings and submissions.
- Deliver training and awareness programs across the department.

About you
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in legislative compliance management within a complex and regulated environment.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting compliance activities and initiatives to proactively uplift compliance maturity.
- Ability to provide clear, pragmatic compliance advice and manage complex regulatory matters.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities while maintaining the integrity of compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Essential requirements of the role
- Tertiary qualifications in Law, Business, Public Administration or a related field and/or demonstrated, equivalent professional experience.
- Current and valid Working with Children Check Clearance for paid employment.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
