Under general supervision, Custodial Workers are responsible for routine cleaning and maintenance of city-owned buildings, including offices, restrooms, public spaces, and specialized facilities. This important role supports approximately 900,000 square feet of City facilities and plays a direct part in ensuring safe, sanitary, and well-maintained spaces for employees and the public. EXAMPLES OF THE WORK PERFORMED
- Sweeps, mops, vacuums, scrubs, and sanitizes floors, restrooms, offices, lobbies, hallways, and common areas
- Cleans and disinfects restrooms, including fixtures, partitions, and floors; restocks paper products and soap dispensers
- Empties and removes trash and recycling; replaces liners as needed
- Wipes down surfaces, windows, mirrors, doors, and furniture on assigned schedule
- Performs periodic deep-cleaning tasks including floor stripping, waxing, buffing, and carpet extraction
- Operates commercial cleaning equipment including floor buffers, auto-scrubbers, wet/dry vacuums, and pressure washers
- Reports damage, needed repairs, or safety hazards to the supervisor promptly
- Assists with setup and cleanup for special events at city facilities
- Handles, stores, and disposes of cleaning chemicals in accordance with material safety data sheets (MSDS) and city policy
- Maintains custodial storage closets in a clean, organized, and locked condition at all times
- Completes daily task logs and other required documentation accurately
- Participates in required safety meetings, training programs, and performance evaluations
- Performs related duties as required

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate
- One (1) year of custodial, janitorial, or building maintenance experience; OR
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
- Valid driver’s license
DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
- Experience performing custodial, janitorial, or building cleaning duties in a public, commercial, municipal, educational, or similar environment
- Experience operating and maintaining commercial custodial equipment, supplies, and tools
- Training or experience in workplace safety practices, including chemical handling, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Experience using electronic work order systems, mobile devices, or other technology to receive and track assigned work
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid Arizona class D driver's license
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of service.
- Must be willing and able to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Incumbents are subject to pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and post-employment random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug/alcohol testing.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection, and comply with the city's respiratory protection program, including fit-testing requirements, if applicable
