Position Description & Qualifications
Serco is seeking a highly motivated Technical Writer / Task Group Instruction (TGI) Specialist to support the Combat Systems Mechanical Engineering and Planning Division (Code 294) within a U.S. Navy shipyard environment. The selected candidate will provide technical and planning support associated with the development, review, maintenance, and execution of Technical Work Documents and related engineering products supporting submarine and surface ship maintenance availabilities.
This role requires extensive interaction with engineering, planning, project management, and shipyard personnel to support the development of Job Summaries (JSs), Component Unit Identifier (CUI) phases, Task Group Instructions (TGIs), Job Material Lists (JMLs), and deficiency documentation in support of authorized maintenance work packages.
In this role you will:
- Review Authorized Availability Work Packages (AWPs) to support development and execution of maintenance planning products.
- Develop, review, and edit:
- Job Summaries (JSs)
- Component Unit Identifier (CUI) phases
- Task Group Instructions (TGIs)
- Job Material Lists (JMLs)
- Deficiency Forms (DFs), Deficiency Reports (DRs), and Deficiency Logs (DLs)
- Support development and validation of Corporate Cost Estimates.
- Identify required phases, tasks, labor hours, durations, and material requirements necessary to accomplish authorized work.
- Utilize shipyard software systems including:
- Advanced Industrial Management (AIM)
- Material Requirements (MRQT)
- Automated Technical Information System (ATIS)
- Deficiency Tracking System (DTR)
- Joint Engineering Data Management Information and Control System (JEDMICS)
- Review applicable drawings, technical manuals, maintenance standards, and lessons learned to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure all documentation complies with shipyard requirements and applicable programs including:
- SUBSAFE
- Level 1 Material Control
- Scope of Certification (SOC)
- Fly-By-Wire (FBW)
- Deep Diving General Overhaul Specification (DDGOS)
- Support troubleshooting efforts and resolve execution deficiencies through coordination with shipyard stakeholders.
- Incorporate lessons learned and historical project information into TGIs and related planning products.
- Coordinate with multiple shipyard departments and technical codes to support planning and execution activities.
To be successful in this role you will:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience utilizing the Advanced Industrial Management (AIM) system.
- Working knowledge of:
- Microsoft Word
- Excel
- PowerPoint
- Access Database
- Outlook
- Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance required
- Travel up to 10%
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of shipyard organizations, maintenance planning processes, and engineering documentation standards.
- Three (3) years experience in Navy Shipyard supporting or planning work associated with one of the following systems:
- Towed Array Handling Systems
- Buoyant Cable Antenna Systems
- Periscope Mechanical Systems
- Submarine Mast and Antenna Systems
- Radar Mechanical Systems
- Weapons Handling and Launch Systems
- Torpedo Tubes
- Missile Hydraulic Systems
- Missile Compensation Water Systems
- Countermeasure Launchers
- Signal Ejectors
- Trash Disposal Units (TDU)
- Surface Missile Systems
- Surface Ship Towed Systems
- Ship Service Hydraulic Systems
Addtional desired skills:
- Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and maintenance documentation.
- Familiarity with Navy maintenance standards and overhaul procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently while supporting multiple concurrent projects.
- Experience supporting submarine maintenance availabilities preferred.
- Experience supporting submarine or surface combat systems maintenance planning within a naval shipyard environment is strongly preferred.

Salary range: The range for this position can be found at the top of this posting. This range is provided as a general guideline and represents a good faith estimate across all experience levels. Actual base salary will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the scope of the role, relevant experience, job-related knowledge, education and training, key skills, and geographic market considerations.
