At Gap, we are reimagining an iconic American brand for a new generation—grounded in our heritage of modern, optimistic style and driven by a renewed focus on product, storytelling, and cultural relevance.The Gap Brand Communications team plays a critical role in bringing this transformation to life—connecting employees to our strategy, amplifying our product-first mindset, and ensuring a clear, consistent narrative across every touchpoint. We lead internal and executive communications, media relations, and employee experiences for headquarters employees, partnering closely with Marketing, Strategy, Investor Relations, Store Communications, and Global Corporate Affairs.
We are seeking a creative, strategic, and high-impact communications professional to help translate Gap’s next chapter into compelling stories, meaningful employee experiences, and clear business communications.
This role is based in New York City (TriBeCa) and reports to the Director of Communications, supporting the NYC headquarters with occasional engagement in San Francisco.
What You'll Do
• Own and manage the brand’s internal editorial calendar:
Oversee a centralized editorial calendar for internal communications, aligning timing, messaging, and channels across teams to ensure clarity, consistency, and a well-paced employee narrative.
• Bring the brand transformation story to life:
Translate Gap’s strategic priorities—including product focus, brand reinvigoration, and cultural relevance—into clear, compelling communications that inspire employees, partnering with Public Relations to align internal and external messaging and ensure consistent narratives, coordinated timing, and a cohesive brand story.
• Support executive communications and media readiness:
Shape communications for senior leaders—including the Brand CEO and CMO—across internal moments (town halls, employee forums), select external speaking and media engagements, potential issues and reactive communications - developing presentations, speeches, briefing materials, Q&A, and key messages.
• Partner on HR and People Communications:
Collaborate with HR and People teams to deliver communications related to organizational updates, talent initiatives, culture programs, and employee experience priorities, handling sensitive topics with sound judgment and discretion.
• Lead integrated internal campaigns:
Develop and execute multi-channel communications tied to key business moments—including product launches, brand campaigns, and organizational updates—ensuring consistency and impact.
• Create meaningful employee experiences:
Design and deliver high-impact events and engagement moments—including town halls, leadership forums, and cultural activations—bringing key product launches and collaborations to life internally in ways that build excitement, deepen understanding, and reinforce connection to the brand.
• Innovate how we communicate:
Bring a digital-first and culturally relevant lens to storytelling, evolving formats, channels, and content to better engage today’s employee audience.
• Build strong cross-functional alignment:
Partner across teams to ensure messaging consistency and alignment with enterprise priorities, including close coordination with Global Corporate Affairs.
• Drive brand and industry recognition:
Proactively identify and manage opportunities for brand and industry awards, developing compelling submissions that showcase Gap’s product storytelling, cultural relevance, and ongoing transformation.
• Uphold and evolve the Gap voice:
Ensure all communications reflect the brand’s tone—optimistic, modern, inclusive, and confident—while supporting its ongoing reinvention.
Who You Are
• 6–8 years of experience in corporate communications, internal communications, or a related field (in-house or agency)
• An exceptional writer with experience developing internal executive communications and employee messaging
• A brand-minded storyteller who understands how communications shape perception and drive transformation
• Comfortable navigating and communicating through change and ambiguity
• A strategic thinker and hands-on operator who connects vision to execution
• Skilled at influencing senior leaders and building cross-functional partnerships
• Passionate about product, brand storytelling, and cultural relevance
• Highly organized, with strong project management skills and attention to detail
• Digitally fluent across modern communication tools and platforms
• Exercises sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive information
