Job Description
Overview:
The Assistant Director of Engineering supports the Director of Engineering in the overall operation, maintenance, safety, and reliability of all resort facilities and building systems. This position plays a key leadership role in maintaining a luxury guest experience through strong technical knowledge, team leadership, preventive maintenance execution, and operational oversight.
Responsibilities:
Assist in managing the daily operations of the Engineering Department
Supervise, train, mentor, and support Engineering team members while promoting accountability, professionalism, and guest service.
Review, prioritize, assign, and follow up on work orders and preventive maintenance tasks.
Assume full responsibility for the Engineering Department in the absence of the Director of Engineering.
Coordinate departmental activities and projects to minimize guest disruption and operational impact.
Support scheduling, payroll review, inventory management, and departmental administration.
Oversee and support preventive maintenance programs for HVAC systems, boilers, pumps, heat pumps, kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, plumbing, electrical systems, pools, and life safety systems.
Troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
Maintain accurate records, logs, inspections, and documentation related to maintenance activities and equipment performance.
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and control diagrams.
Assist with capital projects, renovations, vendor coordination, and contractor oversight.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, fire safety, environmental, and company standards.
Maintain knowledge of emergency procedures, fire alarm systems, evacuation protocols, and life safety systems.
Conduct safety inspections and support ongoing safety training initiatives.
Ensure proper use of PPE, tools, equipment, and lockout/tagout procedures.
Respond to guest and operational maintenance concerns in a professional and timely manner.
Partner with Rooms, Food & Beverage, Spa, and other departments to ensure seamless resort operations.
Support initiatives that improve reliability, efficiency, energy usage, and overall guest satisfaction.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of engineering or facilities maintenance experience in hospitality, resort, commercial, industrial, or institutional environments.
Previous leadership or supervisory experience required.
Strong hands-on knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
Experience troubleshooting large commercial HVAC systems, boilers, pumps, heat pumps, motors, controls, and related equipment.
Knowledge of building automation systems, life safety systems, and preventive maintenance programs.
Experience with pools, filtration systems, kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, and water systems preferred.
Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical schematics.
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Proficient with work order and maintenance management systems.
CPO certification preferred or ability to obtain upon hire.
HVAC, electrical, or related technical certifications preferred.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and emergency call-ins.
