Job Description

The Department of Design and Construction (DDC) is hiring an Architect V in downtown Honolulu. This position performs complex architectural planning, design, and support during construction work throughout the entire duration of Capital Improvement Program (CIP) or Operating Budget projects involved with the planning and design of public structures/buildings, park and recreational facilities, the renovation, restoration, and redesign of all City-related grounds, and space management planning of City related facilities.
What You Will Do
- Lead Complex Project Development:
- Investigate and resolve challenging architectural issues, develop scope validation and alternatives using data, prepare cost estimates, and coordinate project funding to ensure timely execution.
- Manage Consultant Contracts:
- Prepare and process consultant service contracts including selection, negotiation of scope and fees, contract administration, monitoring progress, and closeout activities.
- Oversee Project Planning, Design, and Construction:
- Prepare planning documents and design for complex projects, collaborate with construction teams to resolve issues, review submittals, and provide post-construction support.
- Coordinate Regulatory Clearances and Stakeholder Communication:
- Secure necessary City, State, and Federal permits and approvals, coordinate with government agencies on land and easement acquisition, and lead public outreach to address project concerns.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities of the position.

Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in architecture or architectural engineering.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
One (1) year of registered professional architectural work experience.
Applicable Skills Needed
- Strong understanding of architectural and structural design principles
- Ability to interpret and apply building, plumbing, and electrical codes
- Proficient in preparing detailed architectural plans, specifications, and material estimates
- Skilled in supervising and coordinating professional and support staff
- Competent in inspecting construction for compliance with architectural requirements
- Effective communication and collaboration with contractors, officials, and stakeholders
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
- Valid driver's license (Type 3/automobile), as required.
- Current State of Hawaii registration as a Professional Architect.
