HKUST Library is seeking a dynamic librarian to join the Library’s Research & Learning Support (RLS) team.
Reporting to the Head of Research & Learning Support, the appointee will contribute to planning, creation, delivery, and assessment of the Library’s research and learning initiatives with an emphasis on supporting researchers in their workflow in an evolving AI-assisted environment. S/he will be a key person to develop and implement services related to research impact, research data, and scholarly communications.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage HKUST repositories: Serve as one of the library’s experts developing and managing the HKUST institutional repositories, research data planning, and overseeing transformative agreements.
- Promote open scholarship and scholarly communication best practices: Foster the adoption of open scholarship and research data management among HKUST community and assist in developing HKUST’s research impact.
- Develop research instruction: Design and deliver forward-looking instruction (robust workshops, online guides, and interactive tools) to the HKUST community across the full research lifecycle, with a focus on integrating effective and ethical AI tools to enhance researcher workflows.
- Provide bibliometric & impact analysis: Offer expertise on bibliometrics, altmetrics and other tools for research impact assessment. Conduct analyses and generate reports for individual and groups to support assessment exercise.
- Serve as subject liaison for assigned disciplines: Act as the primary library contact for designated departments, providing tailored research consultations, course-integrated instruction, and collection development to support the specific teaching and research needs of faculty and students.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- A master’s degree in library and information science or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of post-qualification working experience.
- An open mind and a growth, collaborative and relationship-building mindset; strong self-motivation to learn, proactivity, an innovative attitude, and the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative, AI-assisted research and learning environment.
- Comprehensive understanding of the full research workflow, with the ability to articulate emerging trends in open science (especially open access), research data management, research impact assessment, and scholarly publishing; along with a deep understanding of the academic research environment.
- Excellent written and spoken English; proficiency in Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua) is an advantage.
Desirable Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in research data management (planning and archiving) and data visualization, plus experience with bibliometric tools (e.g. InCites, SciVal, OpenAlex) to produce clear reports for different audiences.
- Proven ability to design and deliver engaging instruction for varied audiences; and familiarity with AI tools applicable to academic research and teaching, along with a keen awareness for their ethical implications and evolving role in research workflow.
- A demonstrated ability to work effectively across library units, with faculty, researchers and external partners, understand diverse needs and align services with strategic priorities of the Library and the University.
(Duration: 2 years, renewable)
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
