Your Impact
Come join us as a Senior Backup Engineer in Cluj, Romania, and be part of a team responsible for protecting critical business data and ensuring the availability of essential systems. In this role, you will oversee backup and recovery operations across physical and cloud environments, proactively monitor backup performance, resolve technical issues, and conduct restoration activities to validate recovery readiness. Your expertise will help ensure that our backup solutions remain reliable, secure, and aligned with business continuity requirements, including defined RTO and RPO targets.
What the role offers
- Backup Operations: Schedule, monitor, and verify daily backups across virtual machines, physical servers, databases, and cloud services.
- Data Recovery: Perform regular restoration tests to validate backups and execute, and, in emergencies, perform full recoveries.
- Infrastructure Management: Maintain backup servers, storage appliances, and tape libraries, including applying patches and upgrades.
- Incident Management: Troubleshoot backup failures, investigate performance bottlenecks, and resolve issues promptly.
- Policy & Compliance: Develop and enforce retention policies to meet compliance, legal, and business continuity requirements.
- On-call: Participate in a rotating on-call rotation – to provide support 24x7
- Documentation: Create and update documentation, including runbooks and disaster recovery plans.
What you need to succeed
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering (or a related field), OR equivalent hands-on experience in a similar role.
- Experience in a 24x7 IT operations environment
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of backup software (e.g., Commvault, Veeam, NetBackup, Dell EMC Data Protection).
- Systems Knowledge: Proficiency in Windows, Linux, and virtualization environments (VMware/Hyper-V).
- Scripting: Experience with scripting languages like Bash, Shell, or PowerShell to automate tasks.
- Networking: Knowledge of network protocols and storage technologies (SAN, NAS, deduplication appliances).
- Certifications such as Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE), Commvault Certified Professional, or relevant backup/storage vendor certifications.
