This role will be crucial in leveraging advanced geophysical techniques to identify and de-risk exploration prospects, optimize resource development, and ensure safe and efficient subsurface operations.
This is a high-impact role focused on generating ideas, building high-quality prospects, and driving exploration decisions in one of our most strategically important basins. You will be joining multidisciplinary bp Exploration Team based in Baku Xazar Centre office, Azerbaijan.
Note that the role is open for Azerbaijani nationals only.
Key Accountabilities:
Lead activities in a multi-disciplinary team – combine disciplines to build coherent subsurface models and reduce uncertainty through integration, ensuring effective collaboration with geoscientists, reservoir engineers, and drilling teams.
Generate exploration ideas – develop and mature new play concepts, leads, and prospects across the Caspian portfolio and wider in the region
Deliver drill-ready opportunities – deliver clear, integrated prospect descriptions with robust risking and volumetrics
Deliver regional descriptions – apply basin and play understanding to unlock new opportunities and strengthen the exploration hopper.
Develop and integrate depositional and stratigraphic frameworks to enhance subsurface understanding and reduce uncertainty.
Perform seismic stratigraphic and structural interpretations to define play concepts and delineate traps.
Coach and develop others – support and mentor junior geoscientists, raising overall team capability
Influence decisions – present clear technical recommendations to senior stakeholders and partners to in order to make informed decisions
Job Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Geophysics, Geology, or a related Earth Science discipline, Master degree preferred.
Strong experience in prospect generation and maturation
Experience in Basin Analysis and hydrocarbon play evaluation
Strong seismic interpretation capability and integrated geoscience mindset
Proficiency in Seismic Stratigraphic Interpretation and Seismic Structural Interpretation.
Understanding of Depositional Frameworks and Stratigraphic Frameworks.
Awareness of Petrophysical Seismic Reservoir Characterization.
Background in Caspian or analogous basins preferred
Skills in Seismic Analysis, including seismic processing, inversion, and attribute interpretation.
Proficiency with tools such as Petrel (or equivalent)
Analytical skills with the ability to assess and manage Subsurface Uncertainty and Risk.
Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
Good people skills – collaborative, credible, and able to mentor others
