Position Summary
The FEA Engineer performs professional engineering work requiring sound knowledge of mechanical or structural engineering principles and proficiency in finite element simulation. The role involves developing, executing, and validating numerical models to assess structural and mechanical performance, applying engineering judgement to solve practical design and operational challenges.
The FEA Engineer will contribute to the delivery of technically complex projects, working under the guidance of senior consultants while progressively developing subject matter expertise in simulation-based engineer.
Overview
We are seeking a motivated FEA Engineer to join our Digital Solutions team. The role supports simulation-led design and engineering assessments across the Energy, Chemical, and Resources (ECR) sectors.
The successful candidate will apply advanced numerical analysis techniques using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools to support design verification, fitness-for-service (FFS) assessments, and structural integrity evaluations.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Execution:
• Develop finite element models for static, dynamic, and nonlinear analyses, applying appropriate meshing strategies, boundary conditions, and load representations.
• Conduct simulations using Abaqus, Ansys, or equivalent FEA software to support design and assessment activities.
• Perform checks on modelling accuracy, mesh sensitivity, convergence, and result interpretation.
• Apply relevant design codes, standards, and analytical methods to validate simulation outcomes.
• Support multidisciplinary engineering teams with numerical insights and recommendations for design optimisation and risk mitigation.
• Prepare detailed analysis reports, documenting assumptions, methodology, results, and engineering conclusions.
Project Delivery:
• Deliver assigned analysis tasks within agreed schedules, budgets, and quality requirements.
• Participate in technical reviews to ensure quality and consistency across simulation deliverables.
• Assist senior team members in managing project documentation, version control, and model traceability.
Business Support:
• Assist the Software and Simulation Business in Southeast Asia by providing technical expertise, demonstrations, and proof-of-concept studies that showcase the value of simulation tools in solving real engineering problems.
• Support pre-sales and post-sales technical activities, including benchmarking, workflow optimisation, and client training.
• Collaborate with the business development team to align technical capabilities with client needs and regional market initiatives.
Continuous Development:
• Maintain awareness of new developments in FEA methodologies, materials modelling, and computational practices.
• Contribute to workflow improvement through automation or scripting where applicable (e.g., Python, MATLAB).
• Support internal knowledge-sharing initiatives and contribute to the team’s technical database or modelling standards.
Health, Safety, and Quality:
• Ensure all analysis work complies with applicable health and safety requirements and internal quality management systems.
• Apply safe working practices in all assigned tasks and actively participate in safety initiatives.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace, or a related engineering discipline is required. A PhD will be considered a plus.
- 3–5 years of experience in engineering analysis using FEA tools.
- Practical experience with Abaqus, ANSYS, or similar commercial FEA software.
- Understanding of material nonlinearities, contact modelling, and structural dynamics.
- Knowledge and experience of CFD will be an advantage.
- Familiarity with relevant design codes and standards (e.g., ISO, AS, API, ASME, DNV).
- Competency in Python or similar scripting languages for pre/post-processing is advantageous.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills in English are essential. Proficiency in additional languages, such as Indonesian, Malay or Chinese or other regional languages, will be considered an asset.
Desired Attributes
- Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering drawings and translate design intent into computational models.
- Analytical and methodical approach to solving engineering problems.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to technical accuracy.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Eagerness to learn advanced simulation techniques and expand domain expertise.
