Job Description
We’re looking for Bus Field Technicians who are excited to grow their careers while supporting critical energy infrastructure projects across the U.S. This hands-on field role offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of job sites, including power plants, hydroelectric dams, and large-scale industrial facilities. You’ll focus on systems such as Isolated Phase Bus Ducts, Non-Segregated Bus Ducts, and Generator Circuit Breakers, and will be responsible for mechanical project scopes, including demo, layout, rigging, setting, and welding aluminum conductors.
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Collaborate with assigned crews and other trades on-site
- Interpret construction, welding, and electrical drawings, and read measurements per layout plans
- Determine appropriate welding methods and set up components according to job specs
- Rig, lift, align, and fit electrical bus equipment as directed by drawings and specs
- Weld aluminum components in multiple positions (vertical, horizontal, overhead – 6G test required)
- Maintain tools and welding equipment in a safe working condition
- Inspect, inventory, and organize parts and components for installation
- Perform maintenance and inspection of existing equipment for defects or deterioration
- Operate electrical test equipment, including Hi-Pot, Ductor, and Megger
- Fill out daily timesheets and job reports
- Operate company vehicles and follow RMS Energy’s safety and driving policies
- Follow strict safety and PPE usage protocols due to noise, electrical hazards, and elevated work areas
- 0-3 years of aluminum welding experience (MIG required, TIG preferred)
- Familiarity with medium and high voltage electrical equipment
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and proper PPE usage, including working at heights
- Experience with substation construction or electrical bus installation is preferred
- Proficient in operating forklifts, manlifts, and similar field equipment
- Willingness to travel up to 75% across the continental U.S.
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid driver’s license
- Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests
- Available for extended and irregular hours as needed
- Able to work outdoors in all weather, at heights (100+ ft), in confined spaces, and around high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery
- Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs and enduring extended physical activity
- Requires good vision, hearing, and English proficiency for safe, effective communication in noisy environments
- Completion of a trade school program, technical college, associate degree, or skilled trade certification
- TWIC Card
- CDL License
- Prior experience working with Isolated Phase Bus Ducts, Non-Segregated Bus Ducts, and Generator Circuit Breakers
