Job Description
The Resp Therapy Asst II (RTA II)will provide support for respiratory care services for the treatment of patients with disordered respiratory physiology under the direction of a registered respiratory therapist. They are responsible for delivering varied oxygen devices to hospital patients and care areas on a timely basis. The RTA II will work closely with a Registered Respiratory Therapist providing support to general care patients performing Home Durable Medical Equipment (DME) assessments, assist with Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) placement and skin integrity monitoring, overnight oximetry studies, and nocturnal oxygen trends. They will also check humidification/change water for all high flow devices on the general care floor. This position also supports the respiratory therapists, nurses, and physicians with their equipment/supply needs, work lists, and workload data throughout the Mayo complex. RTA II’s are members of the hospital Code 45 team, performing CPR as required. Staff may perform 12 Lead EKG's.
This position is for Respiratory Therapist new hires at Mayo that are starting in the Respiratory Therapy Assistant position prior to licensure.

Minimum educational level is a high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) plus 3 years’ experience in a direct patient care role OR completion of 3 years of a baccalaureate program in respiratory care OR 1 year experience as Resp Therapy Asst.
Must be able to learn and perform CPR. Must have good verbal communication skills. Ability to interact with a variety of individuals. Have strong independent problem-solving skills to respond to unpredictable situations. Maturity, initiative, commitment to patient and customer service, and good judgment focusing on patient safety are required. Ability to work harmoniously in a team environment. Expected to follow proper precautions to avoid potential exposure to infectious agents, hazardous substances, noise, and heat. Good manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to work with equipment. CPR will be taught if not already BLS trained. Must be able to differentiate medical life support gases. Previous knowledge of medical terminology/abbreviations helpful.
