EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Temporary Part-time (August 4 to August 31, 2026)
SALARY: 80 nominal hours of work; Unit 3 ESL Instructor part-time contract positions are paid an hourly rate, as per the collective agreement.

JOB SUMMARY:
Business Communication is part of Goodman’s Business English and Skills Transition (BEST) program for the MPAcc (ISP) program and Goodman's Academic Preparation courses for the MBA. The objective of this course is to prepare students for graduate studies in Canada and enable the development of English language skills in a business context, prior to proceeding to the graduate courses. The Business Communication course takes place over four weeks in August of each year and involves approximately 80 international students.
Business Communication instructors will teach all four skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) within a business framework. In addition to scheduled contact time with students, instructors are responsible for the preparation of daily lesson plans, supplementary materials, tests, and assignments in accordance with Goodman School of Business curriculum. They are also responsible for the marking and evaluation of student work, record keeping and attending meetings with program coordinator when required. Furthermore, instructors will be required to hold office hours and serve as judges on competitions. Instructors are expected to work collaboratively and maintain frequent communication with program coordinator. Other course-specific duties may be assigned by coordinator. Please note that there will be separate in-person and asynchronous course offerings this year.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The minimum qualifications for a new appointment shall be:
1. Master’s level qualifications in related areas (e.g. Business Communication, Education, English, Applied Linguistics, Languages) or Bachelor degree and TESL Certificate with a supervised practicum.
2. Minimum of 3 years’ successful experience teaching advanced English to international students at the University level, including expertise in teaching the writing process, APA citation style, oral presentation, reading, listening, and note-taking.
3. Proven understanding of business related topics and professional standards for public speaking and business documents, such as letters, reports, and business plans. Successful applicants will have either formal education in business or professional experience in the field (minimum 1 year).
4. Previous successful experience teaching all fours skills integrated and using authentic and current business materials. Successful applicants will have familiarity with task-based and genre-based teaching approaches.
5. Demonstrated interpersonal qualities that support international students’ course-related needs, including the ability to communicate effectively, provide meaningful feedback, maintain accurate records, and work collaboratively.
6. Advanced competence in the use of email, Sakai, Microsoft Office 365, Internet, Turnitin, and multi-media equipment.
