Overview
The Clinical Research Support Laboratory (CRSL) is the primary non-CLIA certified laboratory responsible for collecting, processing, stabilizing, documenting, shipping and tracking all research biospecimens from patients participating in therapeutic clinical trials supported by the Yale Cancer Center Clinical Trials Office.
Reporting to the CRSL Laboratory Supervisor, the Research Assistant, HSS is
responsible for managing the supplies and clinical research study tools for the CRSL Operations team. In addition to managing the study supplies for the portfolio of studies supported by the CRSL, the Research Assistant, HSS also serves as a primary contact for the clinical operations and laboratory teams. The incumbent provides meticulous preparation for the coordination and shipment of biological specimens obtained from patients participating in clinical oncology trials and is responsible for the preparation of visit-specific kits for research participant collections. This position requires comprehending and following protocols and laboratory manuals for a large number of clinical studies with a high degree of accuracy. Responsibilities include collaboration with CRSL Management for study visit preparation, coordination and inventory maintenance for visits across Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven as well as all associated network sites. Transport of samples may also be required for the New Haven location.
Required Skills and Abilities
1. Proven ability to work with research protocols and clinical trials; adept at collecting and managing data.
2. Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and experience working with diverse groups or patient populations.
3. Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word), electronic medical databases, and other relevant software.
4. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
5. Strong customer service orientation, with the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially and professionally.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
1. Bachelor's degree in a related field such as psychology, neuroscience, or public health; experience administering structured clinical interviews or managing research studies.
2. Familiarity with research regulations, ethical guidelines, and Institutional Review Board (IRB) procedures.
3. Experience with data management software, such as REDCap, OnCore, and clinical trial management systems (CTMS).
4. Prior experience in a clinical setting, working with subjects with psychiatric or cognitive disorders.
5. Completion of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training, with certification as a Clinical Research Associate (CRA) or Clinical Research Professional (CRP) preferred.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for research projects. 2. Interprets, synthesizes, and analyzes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Modifies and plans research experiments, procedures, tests, or survey instruments. Assists in research design. 3. Writes and edits material for publication and presentation. Reports on status of research activities. Oversees and instructs research and support staff on technical procedures, equipment operation, and laboratory maintenance. 4. Schedules and coordinates research activities. Identifies and recruits study participants. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. 5. May assist in preparing financial information and monitoring budgets. 6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities. Required Education and Experience Two years of related work experience in the same job family and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.Job Posting Date
