Junior HVAC Estimator
Department: Preconstruction / Estimating
Reports To: Lead HVAC Estimator or Preconstruction Manager
Location: Nashville, TN
Salary: $50,000-$75,000
Position Summary
The Junior HVAC Estimator supports the estimating team in preparing cost estimates for commercial mechanical construction projects, including HVAC systems, piping, and related mechanical scopes.
This role assists with quantity takeoffs, bid preparation, vendor pricing, and project documentation while developing the knowledge and skills necessary to grow into a full estimator role. The Junior HVAC Estimator works closely with senior estimators, project managers, suppliers, and subcontractors to help produce accurate and competitive bids.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating Support
Assist senior estimators with preparing estimates for commercial HVAC and mechanical projects.
Perform basic quantity takeoffs from construction drawings and specifications.
Compile material quantities for ductwork, piping, equipment, and accessories.
Organize bid documents, drawings, and addenda.
Maintain organized bid files and estimating documentation.
Project Estimating
Assist with collecting pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
Help analyze labor, materials, and equipment costs.
Enter estimating data into estimating software.
Support the preparation of preliminary budgets and estimates.
Bid Preparation
Review drawings and specifications to understand project scope.
Assist in preparing bid proposals and scope summaries.
Track bid deadlines and help coordinate bid submissions.
Help ensure all required bid documents are complete.
Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination
Request pricing from vendors and subcontractors.
Assist with compiling and comparing vendor quotes.
Help maintain supplier and subcontractor contact lists.
Update pricing information in company databases.
Collaboration
Work with the estimating team during the preconstruction phase.
Participate in internal estimate reviews and meetings.
Assist with project handoff documentation for the project management team after award.
Learning and Development
Develop knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical construction, and estimating practices.
Learn company estimating procedures, software, and workflows.
Build familiarity with mechanical equipment, ductwork, piping systems, and controls.
Assist with maintaining historical cost data and estimating records.
Required Qualifications
1–3 years of experience in construction, mechanical trades, or estimating
Basic understanding of construction drawings and specifications
Strong organizational and time management skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general computer software
Ability to work in a team environment and meet deadlines
Strong willingness to learn the mechanical estimating process
Preferred Qualifications
Education in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
Experience with construction takeoff or estimating software
Exposure to HVAC systems, ductwork, piping, or mechanical construction
Internship or field experience in construction or mechanical trades
