Job Description
Payroll Supervisor
Reports to: Director, Compensation and Benefits
About the Role
We’re looking for a Payroll Supervisor who brings rigor to controls, accuracy, and compliance — and who’s energized by using data and modern tools (including AI) to make payroll smarter.
Partnering with the Sr. Payroll Manager, you’ll help lead the planning, controls, and continuous improvement of our payroll operations. You’ll safeguard the integrity of every payment, strengthen the policies and processes behind the scenes, and bring fresh thinking to how the work gets done.
What You’ll Do
- Ensure timely, accurate pay for every employee through ongoing review and analysis of payroll data.
- Foster an environment focused on controls that protect the integrity of the payroll process through clearly documented policies and procedures.
- Maintain payroll internal controls, ensuring procedures, policies, and processing rules are consistently applied to daily activities and meet internal and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare payroll materials for internal and external auditors and respond to audit requests in partnership with Tax/Accounting.
- Act as liaison among Human Resources, Payroll, Benefits, and Accounting — troubleshooting issues and resolving problems collaboratively.
- Partner with the Payroll Leads to streamline workflows and process payroll and tax corrections accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain payroll validation tables and oversee journal entries, GL mapping, and the implementation of new payroll laws and regulations.
- Develop and maintain SOPs for payroll processes; conduct root-cause analysis on discrepancies and implement sustainable fixes.
- Build dashboards, reports, and analytical tools — including AI-enabled solutions — that surface KPIs, trends, and actionable insight.
- Evaluate and optimize payroll system processing, identifying automation opportunities to eliminate manual work.
- Provide leadership and guidance to team members by modeling creative and analytical thinking, and seeking alternative solutions to challenges.
- Support projects spanning HR, Finance, Benefits, and Payroll; serve as backup for payroll processing as needed.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- 7–10 years of payroll experience, including hands-on data analysis and reporting.
- CPP or FPC (or active progress toward one); Workday certifications a plus.
- Solid grounding in payroll, accounting, finance, and payroll tax law.
- Advanced Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas, Power Query) plus reporting/BI tools like Power BI or Tableau.
- Working knowledge of — or strong curiosity about — AI and automation applied to payroll.
- Experience with month-end close, journal entries, and how payroll flows through the GL.
- Strong analytical instincts and the ability to translate findings into clear narratives for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Leadership presence, change-management skills, and a proactive approach to service quality.
- A commitment to staying current as the payroll landscape — and the tools that power it — keeps evolving.
