
Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) - Operating Room
Job Description
The Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA), as defined by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), assists the surgeon in the performance of surgical procedures. The CSA has an understanding of human surgical anatomy; has developed surgical skills such as suturing, the proper use of surgical instrumentation, and proper positioning and prepping of surgical patients. The CSA helps provide exposure and maintain hemostasis and serves other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon perform a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. The CSA needs to possess a working knowledge of the principles of aseptic technique and perioperative policies and procedural guidelines. The CSA is required to know surgical procedures and the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon.
