Department: Regulatory Affairs / Product Compliance
Reports To: Director, Regulatory Affairs
Role Summary
The Regulatory Compliance Coordinator supports chemical and consumer product regulatory compliance activities for products marketed in the United States and Canada, with primary responsibility for SDS authoring, regulatory data management, and transportation of dangerous goods (DOT/TDG). The role requires working familiarity with U.S. and Canadian chemical and consumer product labeling regulations, including CPSA and CCCR, to ensure alignment between SDSs, labels, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Author, review, and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in compliance with:
OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200 – U.S.)
WHMIS 2015 (as amended – Canada)
Perform and document GHS hazard classifications
Ensure accuracy and consistency across all 16 SDS sections
Update SDSs due to formulation changes, supplier updates, or regulatory revisions
Coordinate SDS distribution and respond to customer, audit, and inspection requests
Utilize SDS authoring and regulatory systems such as SAP EHS, Sphera, Chemwatch, Chemdox, 3E, UL WERCS, or similar platforms
Manage SDS lifecycle workflows, version control, and change documentation
Review and support approval of chemical product labels to ensure compliance with OSHA HazCom labeling requirements (U.S.) and WHMIS supplier labeling requirements (Canada)
Support consumer chemical product labeling in accordance with U.S. Consumer Product Safety Act (CPSA) and applicable CPSC requirements and Canada Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations (CCCR)
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to regulatory compliance processes
Serve as a regulatory support contact for various stakeholders
Qualifications Required
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Toxicology, or related field
3–6 years of experience in regulatory compliance, SDS authoring, hazard communication, or chemical safety
Hands on experience authoring and updating SDSs
Strong understanding of U.S. and Canadian chemical regulatory frameworks
Direct experience with DOT and TDG regulations
Working knowledge in U.S. Consumer Product Safety Act (CPSA) & Canada Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations (CCCR)
Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a regulated environment
Ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements with supervision
Strong written communication and documentation skills
Effective cross‑functional collaboration
Detail‑oriented, organized, and execution‑focused
Familiarity with pesticide and VOC regulations along with CEPA DSL and TSCA requirements is a plus.
