Summer Activity Camp Instructor- Floater/Substitute (Montlake Community Center)

The Associated Recreation Council (ARC), in partnership with Seattle Parks & Recreation, is hiring a Summer Activity Camp Instructor (Floater/Substitute) to deliver camps at Montlake Community Center. The Activity Camp Instructor (Floater/Substitute) will be responsible for programming and delivering Activity Camp classes to children aged 5-13 years. Instructor must have the ability to engage with a diverse group of children and manage a classroom of students. This role will primarily function as a “floater” supporting various camps while a dedicated instructor develops and delivers the lesson plan on a given topic (nature camp, all sports, pottery). Secondarily to this, the Instructor (Floater/Substitute) will periodically cover the dedicated instructors class when they are absent. The Instructor (Floater/Substitute) will also be responsible to supervise a “Lunch Club.” Lesson plans will be provided though creativity and flexibility will still be important. A passion for working with youth, fun and (of course) safety is a must!

 

Pay Range: $25$27 hourly DOE/non-exempt; seasonal summer position only

Activity Camp Location: Montlake Community Center

 

Schedule:

  • Monday – Friday approx. 18.75 to 23.75 hours per week. Shift starts at 8:30am and may finish at 12:15pm or 1:15pm, depending on program needs. Hours not guaranteed and depend on enrollment.
  • Hire By: June 5, 2026
  • Training dates: On-site training will take place between June 24 and June 26, 2026. Details TBD.
  • Program dates: June 29th – August 21st, 2026
  • The schedule is subject to change based upon programming needs and requirements

Summer Activity Camp Instructor- Floater/Substitute responsibilities:

Programming Requirements

  • Develop and deliver developmentally appropriate activity camp lesson plans/activities in various subject areas to ages 5-13
  • Primarily support dedicated instructor in camp delivery
  • Periodically lead a camp during instructor absence
  • Supervise 1 hour “lunch club” as needed
  • Use critical thinking to problem-solve
  • Maintain camp appropriate professional appearance
  • Daily set-up, take down and cleaning of space
  • Reports to Associated Recreation Council Activity Camp Administrator

Relationship Building

  • Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all participants
  • Collaborate with Activity Camp Administrator and other on-site staff to ensure safety of all participants
  • Collaborate with Activity Camp Administrator to manage behavioral concerns of all participants
  • Communicate with parents, coworkers and Seattle Parks and Recreation partners in a professional and courteous manner
  • Attend all required meetings and training

Care and Safety

  • Follow safety protocols while ensuring all campers are following
  • Complete required accident/incident forms if participants or instructors are injured


Summer Activity Camp Instructor- Floater/Substitute minimum qualification:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Prior youth programming experience required
  • Must have demonstrated working experience working with families, community members and partners to foster positive relationships

Additional Preferred Requirements

  • Preference given to instructors available for all or most of the summer program
