Description
Job Purpose
The Director of Studies is responsible for providing academic leadership and support to the Principal and teaching team, ensuring the effective delivery and continuous improvement of high-quality English language programmes. The role includes supporting and developing teaching staff, maintaining academic standards, and teaching English to individuals and groups of junior and adult students in accordance with the relevant syllabus, using materials and teaching approaches appropriate to the students’ needs, levels, and course type.

The role includes supporting and developing teaching staff, maintaining academic standards, and teaching English to individuals and groups of junior and adult students in accordance with the relevant syllabus, using materials and teaching approaches appropriate to the students’ needs, levels, and course type.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Academic & Administrative Duties
- Academic & administration tasks for the Groups and Adults; e.g. timetabling, classing and assisting with teacher payroll
- Check teacher administrative tasks are up-to-date on a weekly basis. This will include class registers, work records and student reports
- Assist with student and teacher inductions as and when necessary
- Interview and hire teachers when required
- Deliver barrier tests, interview and assess students to determine their levels and progress as and when it is necessary
- Mark student tests and place students on arrival day
- Oversee the organisation of the summer junior programmes in an academic and logistical role at the off-site location
- Teach both adult and junior lessons when necessary and in accordance with OIEG standards
- Provide teaching cover for absent teachers as required by the Principal
- Cover the Principal in their absence
- Manage administrative functions as instructed by the Principal
- Prepare and deliver professional development sessions
- Assist in course design and supplement materials
- Provide ongoing support in curriculum development
- Manage the stock of the Junior Resources such as the OIEG coursebooks for juniors
- Meet OIEG’s budget and expense criteria in all expenditures
- Catalogue teaching resources, suggesting new and replacement materials
Student Welfare
- Promote the welfare of all students and help manage those students who need welfare support
Other Duties (as and when required)
- Represent the company in a reputable and professional manner at all times according to OIEG’s code of conduct policy
- Attend weekly meetings with the school principal and Academic team
- Respond to emergencies whenever necessary in accordance with OIEG’s emergency procedures
- Maintain appropriate levels of student discipline, safety and welfare
- Encourage students to use English whenever possible
- Carry out and/or consult risk assessments as required
- Attend CPD sessions and, when required, assist in the creation, design, promotion and delivery of new and existing CPD sessions
- Attend all staff briefings and take part in all necessary health and safety training
- Commit to be being a positive role model through your employment
- Communicate daily with team teachers
- Provide training and mentoring to team teachers
- Carry out observations when required
- Conduct new student orientations including the city tour when required
- Take responsibility for the emergency phone on a rotational basis
- Support Student Services and deal with enquiries
- Answer the phone and check messages during business hours when admin staff are not available
- Be competent in using Intrinsiq and other corporate software, and with technology in general
- Keep up-to-date on OIEG programmes and be able to lead an information session for students
- Manage noticeboards in classrooms and around the school with class teacher and administrative staff as and when necessary
- Management and maintenance of teaching supplies

Statutory requirements
- Eligibility to live and work in the UK
- Enhanced DBS disclosure check or overseas equivalent
Qualifications
- Level 7 ELT qualification*, e.g. Trinity Diploma TESOL/Cambridge Delta
*Candidates already enrolled on a Diploma course will be considered. Should such a candidate be appointed, the Diploma must be completed within 12 months of the contract start date. The probationary period will be extended to reflect this and the appointment only confirmed upon successful completion of the qualification.
- Recognised ELT qualification, e.g. Trinity CertTESOL or Cambridge CELTA
- Other relevant teaching qualification (such as CELTYL) (Desirable)
- ELT-related or other relevant Master’s degree (Desirable)
- Undergraduate degree (Desirable)
Experience and knowledge
- Demonstrable English language proficiency (CEFR C2, IELTS 8.5)
- Demonstrable knowledge of effective language teaching and learning strategies
- Experience of delivering English language lessons to groups of junior and adult students
- Experience of working with students from a diversity of cultures and language backgrounds
- Experience of teaching IELTS/FCE/CAE/Business/EAP courses
- Experience of working with teenagers and young learners
- Experience of working in different Language Teaching Organisations (e.g. language school, university language centre) (Desirable)
- Experience of working in an LTO outside the UK (Desirable)
- Experience of mentoring, coaching and supporting colleagues (Desirable)
- Experience of delivering CPD sessions (Desirable)
- Experience of working in an academic management role (Desirable)
