Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments prior to surgical procedures, ensuring all pre-operative requirements are met.
- Review patient's medical history and verify surgical consent forms and necessary documentation.
- Administer prescribed medications and intravenous fluids as per pre-operative protocols.
- Educate patients and their families about the surgical process, expected outcomes, and post-operative care instructions.
- Monitor patients' vital signs and report any abnormalities to the surgical team.
- Prepare and maintain a sterile environment in the pre-operative area.
- Ensure all surgical equipment and supplies are available and functioning properly prior to procedures.
- Provide emotional support to patients and families, addressing any concerns or questions they might have.
- Document all patient interactions, assessments, and interventions accurately in the medical records.
- Participate in continuous education and training sessions to stay updated with the latest nursing practices in pre-op and PACU care.
- Follow hospital policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure patient safety and quality care.
- Assist in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) as needed, monitoring patients as they recover from anesthesia.
Qualifications
- Education: Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Licenses/Certification: Required: Registered Nurse in the State. Current BLS, ACLS and PALS
- Experience: Minimum two years in an operating room setting in a hospital or ASC.
