Job Description

Summary: Operate radiologic equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes. Position radiologic equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance according to specification of examination. Take x-rays following established radiologic requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety. 

Essential Functions: 

 

A: Job Specific 

 

  • Reviews and interprets physician order for the diagnostic x-ray procedure accurately 
  • Validates all patient identification before performing any diagnostic x-ray procedure accurately 
  • Communicates with patient to obtain medical history and/or specific medical information that is pertinent to the procedure and/or patient's well-being during the procedure 
  • Validates proper working conditions and technical factors of all imaging equipment and procedure room 
  • Explains procedure to patient to facilitate patient cooperation and alleviate patient anxiety; ensures patient comfort and safety 
  • Assumes responsibility for patient care during the imaging procedure to include infection control 
  • Follows procedure protocols and policies and procedures in performing diagnostic x-ray procedures 
  • Demonstrates competence in collimation, patient positioning and radiation safety to reduce radiation exposure as much as possible 
  • Practice’s radiation safety for patients, family, visitors and self 
  • Critiques all images for image quality for interpretation 
  • Actively participates in the Quality Assurance program(s) 
  • Consistently demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities and deals with them promptly 
  • Establishes and maintains a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all members of the department and facility 
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn new procedures and assist in other areas as needed 
  • Communicate weekly scheduled hours with Manager of Surgical Services.
  • Be present for daily morning huddle one hour before case start time (on surgery days) or 9:00 am (non-surgery days).
  • Understand and apply clinical instructions given by supervising professionals of the OR.
  • Demonstrate adequate strength, motor coordination, and manual dexterity to properly lift and transport patients, manually position patients, manipulate a variety of radiographic equipment, and effectively operate portable imaging equipment.
  • Assist in patent safety measures.
  • Store and handle c-arm in a manner that will reduce staff fall risk.
  • Clean, disinfect, or sterilize facilities and equipment, and dispose of contaminated items in preparation for next procedure.
  • Remain in Surgery Department until patient is out of PACU.
  • Demonstrate role and be an active participant in medical code management of the OR.
  • Maintain professionalism and observe proper operating room behavior and etiquette.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient and/or employee information to assure patient and/or employee rights are protected. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patient population served. 
  • Reports to work on time as scheduled; adheres to policies regarding notification of absence. 
  • Attends all mandatory in-services and staff meetings. 
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. 
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. 
  • Communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department. 
  • Maintains current licensure/certification for position, if applicable.
  • Consistently demonstrates Guest Relation’s skills to patients, physicians, visitors, employees, and any other individuals with whom they may come in contact. 
  • Consistently follows departmental and hospital Health, Safety, Security, Hazardous Materials policies and procedures. 
  • HIPAA: Conduct job responsibilities in accordance with HIPAA privacy laws, follow hospital policy in provision of patient confidentiality. Able to identify patient confidentiality issues and reports to proper hospital personnel immediately. 
  • Compliance: Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with standards set forth in FHMC Code of Conduct, FHMC policy and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, and applicable standards. 
  • Employee must maintain a courteous and respectful attitude toward fellow employees, staff, contractors, vendors and the public at all times. Employee must avoid loud, profane, or unprofessional language at all times during the performance of duties. It is immediate grounds for termination if Employee engages in misconduct or is incompetent or negligent in the proper performance of duties or is disorderly, dishonest, intoxicated, or discourteous. 

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technologist program (Bachelor’s preferred.) Additional state requirements as applicable. Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may substitute for education.

  • Licenses/Certification: Technologist must be registered and in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) with State Medical Board. Current BLS
  • Experience: Experience in OR operating C-Arm, extensive spine and ortho experience necessary
