POSITION SUMMARY
This role is required to be in office 5 days a week.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to lead and manage the full payroll function with a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, and employee experience. This role is ideal for someone with deep hands-on payroll expertise who understands the complexities of multi-state payroll processing, payroll regulations, tax compliance, audits, and reporting.
The Senior Payroll Specialist will serve as a key resource for payroll operations, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. In addition to day-to-day payroll responsibilities, this individual will help drive process improvements and support payroll system enhancements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own and manage the full end-to-end payroll process for employees, including payroll calculations, processing, deductions, garnishments, and reconciliations;
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing while maintaining strict compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and tax regulations;
- Conduct regular payroll audits and reconciliations to identify and resolve discrepancies;
- Prepare, review, and analyze payroll reports, including overtime, labor costs, tax filings, and benefit deductions;
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee payroll questions, resolving issues related to pay, taxes, deductions, and benefits;
- Partner closely with HR and Finance to ensure employee data, benefit elections, and payroll records are accurate and up to date;
- Maintain payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls to improve efficiency and ensure compliance;
- Support payroll system updates, enhancements, and testing in partnership with IT and vendors;
- Stay informed on changing payroll legislation, compliance requirements, and industry best practices;
- Assist in training and mentoring payroll team members as needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field preferred;
- 5+ years of progressive payroll experience in a high-volume or complex payroll environment;
- Strong understanding of payroll processing, payroll taxes, wage and hour laws, garnishments, and multi-state compliance requirements;
- Proven experience managing payroll operations with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality;
- Experience using payroll systems such as Workday, ADP, Paychex, or similar platforms;
- Advanced Excel and payroll reporting skills preferred;
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work cross-functionally across HR, Finance, and employees at all levels;
- Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving payroll issues.
