Job Description
Job Title: SHEQ Advisor | Major Hazard Facility (MHF) Infrastructure
Location: Sydney (Port Botany), NSW
Work Type: Full Time
The Vopak Point of Difference: Where Impact Meets Infrastructure
Most safety roles keep you trapped behind a desk, auditing spreadsheets. This isn't one of them. At Vopak Terminals Australia, we connect world-scale energy and chemical infrastructure to the global supply chain. Our Port Botany terminal is a critical, asset-intensive portfolio—meaning every process you optimise, every risk assessment you shape, and every safety standard you verify directly safeguards our frontline operators, maritime transport channels, and the surrounding Sydney community.
If you are a practical, site-first safety professional looking to test and elevate your technical capabilities within a high-stakes, process-oriented Major Hazard Facility (MHF) environment, you just found your next move.
Driven by Our Core Values We don't just manage safety through compliance software; we drive it through our cultural pillars:
Trust: We act with absolute professional honesty and integrity, holding ourselves and others to strict safety requirements even when they are inconvenient.
Collaboration: We build fluid, interdependent partnerships across all shifts, terminal operations, and engineering teams to draw out richer insights and achieve shared security goals.
Courage: We assume personal ownership of site safety and possess the operational readiness to respectfully step up, voice opinions directly, and address difficult compliance or hazard exposures on the spot.
The Opportunity
Operating as a critical individual contributor and internal Solution Partner, you will actively bridge the gap between world-class safety architecture and real-world execution. Reporting directly to the SHEQ Manager, you will spend your days working side-by-side with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to deliver practical compliance, hazard mitigation, and active operational risk management.
Your Everyday Impact:
Field-Driven Leadership: Conduct terminal safety walkarounds and technical inspections, turning observation trends into sharp corrective actions through direct frontline engagement.
High-Value Risk Mitigation: Partner with technical job owners to build and support robust Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS).
System Integrity & Tech: Act as the system champion for the Vopak Integrated Management System; leveraging advanced compliance software and automated data control tools to keep our registers error-free.
Audit & Continuous Process Improvement: Prepare individual audit plans, execute analytical fieldwork, and actively update localised SHEQ procedures to optimise terminal workflows.
Culture & Capability: Facilitate our WHSE committee workshops, coordinate emergency response simulations, and support targeted return-to-work / injury recovery paths.
What We Offer (The Vopak Perks):
We believe in taking care of the people who keep our terminals safe. When you join the Sydney team, you'll enjoy a culture that values reward, lifestyle, and team connection:
Financial Flexibility: Access to Novated Leasing packages to maximize your take-home value.
Health & Wellbeing: Full access to our comprehensive Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for you and your family.
Social & Team Culture: A truly innovative and fun environment featuring regular team lunches, a highly collaborative atmosphere, and social milestone celebrations.
Growth & Progression: Professional Development and training programs to continuously stretch your technical toolkit.
Workplace Balance: Enjoy a highly stable workweek that respects your lifestyle inside and outside the gate.
What You Bring:
The Track Record: 3 to 5 years of solid, operational experience as a dedicated health, safety, and environment practitioner.
The Environment: Prior tenure inside a Major Hazard Facility (MHF), chemical refinery, utilities grid, or bulk liquid fuel storage asset network is highly prioritised.
The Mindset: A self-starting specialist comfortable managing independent site workloads, tracking data trends, and remaining steady during complex terminal scenarios.
The Credentials: A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering is highly preferred. A Certificate IV or Diploma in WHS is required (or a committed drive to rapidly acquire one).
Value Adds: Experience as a certified Return-to-Work Coordinator or holding a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE) will give you an immediate edge.
