Senior Policy Officer
- Location: Parramatta with access to hybrid working arrangement, with a minimum of three days per week in the office
- Full time temporary opportunity for up to 12 months (35 hours per week)
- Salary from $129,464 to $142,665 pa. + super and annual leave loading
This is a targeted recruitment. Your role
The Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) leads the delivery and growth of Aboriginal housing across New South Wales. Committed to self-determination and strong community partnership, the AHO works to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have access to safe, affordable and quality housing, while creating meaningful employment and training opportunities for Aboriginal communities.
The role is to coordinate and undertake the development and implementation of a range of policy initiatives working alongside Aboriginal Community Housing Providers (ACHPs) to strengthen the sector and deliver better outcomes for the Aboriginal community.
What you’ll do
As a Senior Policy Officer, you will work in close partnership with Aboriginal communities to shape and strengthen housing policy and reform initiatives.
You will:
- Lead and contribute to cross-agency policy development and reform initiatives.
- Develop new policies, guidelines and frameworks to support strategic priorities.
- Review and enhance existing policies and frameworks to support delivery of the AHO’s Strong Family, Strong Communities strategy.
- Prepare high-quality project and policy documentation, including briefs, discussion papers, reports, status updates and budget information to support informed decision-making.
- Provide timely, evidence-based policy advice that contributes to improved outcomes for Aboriginal people.
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver sustainable, community informed outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
What we’re looking for
- Experience working with community and/or within the housing sector will be highly regarded.
- A proactive self-starter who exercises sound judgement and makes balanced, well-informed decisions.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines with attention to detail.
- Proven policy experience, including research, analysis, and development of policy advice.
- Excellent written communication skills, including the preparation of high-quality briefs, reports, and correspondence.
- Knowledge and experience working in the housing sector or with Aboriginal Community control organisations.
