Job Description

The Accounting and Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting activities while ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing. This role combines financial recordkeeping, payroll administration, and compliance, requiring strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Accounting Duties:

  • Maintain the general ledger and accurately record daily financial transactions
  • Prepare and post journal entries
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts
  • Prepare financial reports and support budgeting activities
  • Assist with audits and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations

Payroll Duties:

  • Process payroll (weekly, biweekly, or monthly) accurately and on schedule
  • Maintain payroll records, including wages, deductions, and tax information
  • Calculate employee compensation, including overtime, bonuses, and commissions
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations
  • Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and related reports
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies promptly

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting and/or payroll
  • Experience with payroll and accounting systems (e.g., Paycom, QuickBooks)
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
