Office Location: Saginaw, Traverse City or Ann Arbor

Job Sites: Throughout state of Michigan


As a Construction Intern with Spence Brothers, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in the field of construction and engineering. This internship will provide you with exposure to various aspects of project management, construction inspection, and engineering practices.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Construction Intern will play a key role in assisting our Project Managers, Project Engineers, Superintendents and Estimators to ensure that a full range of construction activities are completed successfully and efficiently.
  • May assist Superintendents, Project Managers, Engineers, and Coordinators with project-related technical and logistical functions. Includes subcontractor and supplier planning/administration, work assignments, etc.
  • Assist in the coordination of on-site construction and engineering activities for construction projects.
  • Interpret design/drawings, specifications, submittals, and other construction documents.
  • Interface with on-site departments as required to resolve problems, ensure quality of construction, etc. in support of overall project schedule.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Engineering or a related field
  • Familiarity with construction practices and project management concepts
  • Strong academic record with a preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Strong interest in construction, engineering, and infrastructure projects
  • Conscientious self-starter with good organizational skills, project management skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and priorities, must be able to multi-task
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to collaborate with teams
  • Demonstrated personal initiative, self-motivation, flexibility, adaptability and willingness to learn
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc

Work Environment & Physical Demands (may vary by assignment)

  • May perform a great deal of reaching, bending, balancing, kneeling, crawling, turning & twisting (180 degrees)
  • May walk, sit, stand and bend during the course of a workday
  • Ability to traverse uneven ground
  • Work in weather conditions common to this area including heat, cold, rain and snow
  • May work in seated or standing positions for prolonged periods of time, perform sustained manual activities at low to moderate levels of exertion.

This is a 12+ week paid internship for the summer, generally starting in Mid-May and ending in Mid-August.
