Job Description

This position is for a Ward Clerk whose responsibility is to assist in the organization and coordination of the daily activities within the Emergency Department. The position maintains necessary files and coordinates the flow of clerical activities in the department, in accordance with accreditation standards, federal, state and local regulations, organizational and departmental policies and procedures. The position reports to the Director of Emergency Department.

 

 

  1. Minimum level of Education: Education level equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school preferred. High school diploma or GED acceptable preferred.

 

  1. Formal Training: Clerical experience preferred.

 

  1. Licensure, Certifications & Registration: None required.

 

  1. Work Experience: Basic clerical skills, to include filing, customer service, and basic verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills required.
  • Files/scans information in medical records timely and appropriately.
  • Maintains departmental logs for QA tracking.
  • Maintains adequate levels of forms needed for nursing documentation.
  • Orders and maintains adequate level of supplies for the department.
  • Inputs and reviews patient’s charges on a daily basis.
  • Checks departmental email daily and addresses any needs at that time.
  • Enters intradepartmental memos for employees.
  • Maintains current staffing list and contact information and communicates it with other departments.
  • Assists with patient transfers and coordinates with provider and receiving facility as well as providing required documentation of stay.
  • Assists with infection control surveillance
  • Completes all charges in a timely manner.
