
Director, Laboratory Services (4825)
Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
This position is for a Director of Laboratory Services whose responsibility is to plan, organize, and direct the analysis of specimens to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of disease, in accordance with accreditation standards, federal and state regulations, organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Implements activities that ensure the safe and efficient provision of laboratory services for neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatric patient populations. Communicates with medical staff, other departments and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. Position requires self-motivation, creativity and capabilities to function in a semi-autonomous role within a fast pace and dynamic environment. Responsible for the supervision of professional and skilled personnel. This position reports to the Chief Nursing Officer.
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
1. Provides direct supervision of the operation of the Clinical Laboratory and technical oversight of point of care testing.
2. Develops comprehensive and ongoing Quality Assurance, Quality Improvement, and Quality Systems initiatives covering the scope of Clinical Laboratory sections within the Department of Pathology.
3. Responsible for achievement of Clinical Laboratory compliance with accreditation standards, GDCH and OSHA guidelines.
4. Collaborates with the Medical Director(s), Quality Coordinator, and other members of the Laboratory Management Team is required.
5. Responsible for application of future technologies and processes that will continue to provide best possible outcomes for patients, caregivers, and the financial viability of the organization.
6. Responsible for the analysis of specimens to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of diseases in accordance with accrediting agency, federal, state and local regulations and organizational policies and procedures.
7. Responsible for the provision of an adequate supply of blood and blood products.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
1. Minimum level of Education: Education level equivalent to four (4) years of college with concentration in medical technology or related field preferred.
2. Formal Training: Clinical competence in Medical Technology.
3. Licensure, Certifications & Registration: Current Medical Technology registry by AMT, ASCP, HHS, NCA, or ISCLT. BLS preferred.
4. Work Experience: Advanced management skills with experience in planning, organizing, implementing, facilitating, interviewing, counseling, verbal and written communications. Three to five years experience in laboratory management or related field. Intermediate computer skills with word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Experience with Siemens Atellica Chemistry Analyzer preferred.
