Role Overview:

We are looking for a RF Systems Engineer to join our Track Systems team. Reporting into our Track Systems Manager, this role will plan, deploy, manage, and run the Standard Communication System providing telemetry, onboard video, and car data to clients. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To lead the team and take responsibility during an event to deploy, commission, and decommission radio frequency installations around Grand Prix circuits enabling a path for radio communication between on-car systems and receivers connected to trackside sites and deliver audio, video and data to appropriate clients. 
  • Competent working at heights up to 5m using climbing safety harness. 
  • First hand support for track side systems including FIA marshalling, Telemetry, data acquisition and timing as well as paddock systems and F1 team integration.
  • Configure and support the broadcast and IT systems enabling the distribution of onboard video multicasts and telemetry data to clients.
  • Video and data signal analysis, optimising performance and ensuring a clean output.
  • Project design, implementation and documentation to the highest standards providing reliable and resilient technical solutions.
  • Support and liaise with other departments/customers, to fault-find problems or provide solutions to requests as they arise.
  • Take ownership of business areas and operational relationships to act as a point of contact for technical advice, fault reporting and repair feedback.
  • Collaboration with stakeholders to create and maximize efficiencies and optimized technical solutions whilst utilizing existing available resources.
  • Support the team by timely logging, diagnosing and resolving issues and recording them within issue management software such as Jira.
  • Required to ensure the upkeep of equipment list/manifests and liaise with freight department.
  • Adept at building productive professional relationships with suppliers and technology providers required by the team to drive innovation and sustainability and for equipment servicing and hardware requirements.
  • Undertaking race event preparatory work and be able to liaise with F1 departments to ensure team race planning is completed to a high standard and in adequate time.
  • Work with line manager to continually explore the most effective and efficient way of maintaining and managing all technical systems.
  • Take ownership of systems to ensure that the design and workflows are continually adapted to meet ever changing business needs and make the most of technical advances.
  • Represent the team and its systems in technical meetings.
  • Provide guidance, advice and feedback, acting as a mentor for Senior Technicians.
  • Able to always operate safely in line with company health and safety requirements.

Experience

Prior to the role it would be essential that you have:

  • Working in a busy and challenging environment to achieve specific objectives 
  • Working in an effective team 
  • Reading, understanding, and working to technical drawings 
  • Experience working within a broadcasting or communications environment as an Engineer 
  • Experienced in TCP/IP Ethernet networks and configuring switches on a LAN network 
  • Proven experience and understanding of technical wiring diagrams 
  • Experience of logging and managing incidents in an operational environment Proven history of system design and implementation

Some desirable experience that you may bring to the role:

  • Fully competent in OTDR testing, fusion splicing, termination and installation of fibre optic cable 
  • Practical experience and competency in using AutoCAD software 
  • Previous experience in a system broadcasting technical role

Qualifications

Not essential to be successful in the role but you may also have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering discipline
