Job Description

Manufacturing Engineer - 2nd Shift The Manufacturing Engineer will develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods, workflow, throughput, space utilization, and product quality based on knowledge of product design, materials, parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, capabilities, assembly and quality assurance standards. They will offer support on second shift (approximately 12:00 PM-8:30 PM). Who are we? Founded in 1849, Ducommun is the oldest company in California. Duties Responsibilities Develops and improves manufacturing processes as required to meet production demand. Works with the NPD team to deliver new products on time. Includes: capacity and capability assessment, process selection and development, SOP development, cell design implementation, control plan development, and capital project justification implementation. Supports continuous improvement activities to improve manufacturing operations. May lead Kaizen events as needed. Interfaces with colleagues, customers, vendors, and others to understand requirements, assess feasibility of new/existing products, and improve production techniques. Analyzes technology trends and plans and executes capital projects. Communicates data and feedback to other departments so decisions can be timely and optimized. Applies Lean Manufacturing techniques to develop flow through manufacturing processes. Champions the use of lean manufacturing principles, based on systems thinking and the application of statistical methods, throughout the assigned manufacturing cells. Develops Standard Operating Procedures. Determines root cause and corrective action of non-conforming product and disposition MRR in ERP. Completes all Corrective Action Records (CAR’s) assigned in a timely manner. Red-lines travelers and creates rework planning. Makes planning changes in Master Planning and work orders in ERP. Direct supervisory responsibilities are not included in the job scope of the Manufacturing Engineer. That said, a successful ME has leadership skills, the ability to self direct, and works effectively both independently and interdependently. The ability to influence others is essential. Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area. Performs other duties as assigned or required by the position.
