Role Summary:
Reporting to the Director, ISM, the Associate role within Investment Structure Management (ISM) provides hands-on support for CPP Investments’ private investments across Credit, Private Equity, and Real Assets, including entity setup and governance, and assisting with various projects and initiatives related to CPP Investments group companies. This is an excellent entry point into the world of investment structuring, offering meaningful exposure across diverse asset classes and cross-functional teams.You will work as part of a collaborative team with representatives from the investing departments, Finance, Operations, Legal and Tax as well as external advisors. This role is well-suited for someone who is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and energized by complex, fast-paced, cross-functional environments.
Accountabilities & Qualifications:
Accountabilities
Assist the Manager and/or Director in the pre-close/structuring and ongoing maintenance of new investments, exits and restructurings, which includes:
Work with internal partners to identify and help address structuring and operational complexities of CPP Investments legal entity structures.
Assist in coordinating the establishment of new legal entities and addressing legal and governance requirements in support of CPP Investments’ structures, in partnership with investing teams and non-investing teams.
Provide support for the structuring and transaction closing process for various investment products (e.g., track deal timelines, help develop detailed plans including steps and timelines, maintain meeting minutes and assist with project management of pre-close activities amongst internal partners).
Help build trusted relationships with investing departments and develop an understanding of nuances between asset classes to support the establishment of new or improved processes.
Provide ongoing support to maintain and manage CPP Investments’ structures post-closing, which includes:
Assist with the ongoing operational activities of wholly owned CPP Investments entities to ensure compliance with local legal and regulatory requirements.
Support the preparation of quarterly reporting materials to enhance visibility into operational and risk metrics.
Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation around how CPP Investments manages its investment structures, including applying AI tools where applicable.
Support cross-functional workstreams and initiatives in partnership with other CPP Investments teams.
Assist in various special projects and initiatives as CPP Investments works towards our One Fund Strategy.
Qualifications
Undergraduate degree or college diploma in a related field
4+ years of relevant experience in investment operations, structuring, consulting, private equity, accounting, transaction execution, or related roles
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a developing ability to navigate complex or ambiguous situations with sound judgement
High attention to detail and commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality outputs
Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across teams
Genuine curiosity about and hands-on experimentation with generative AI tools; proactively explores how AI can automate, scale, or improve operational workflows — not just as a user, but as someone who thinks critically about where and how it creates leverage
Self-starter with a continuous learning mindset and ability to manage multiple priorities
Highly collaborative; energized by a culture of excellence and strives to contribute meaningfully to team goals
Preference for professional designation such as CFA, CPA, or CBV is an asset
Experience with or exposure to mergers and acquisitions operations is an asset
