Role Summary:
External data is a critical input into investment decision-making at CPP Investments. The Data Scouting team is responsible for managing the firm’s relationships with third-party data providers, including sourcing new data, negotiating commercial terms, managing contracts and renewals, ensuring compliance with data use policies, and overseeing data-related spend.As a Lead Analyst within Data Scouting, you will operate as a senior individual contributor working across contract management, data sourcing, and stakeholder engagement, while also improving how this work is coordinated and executed across the organization. This role operates at the intersection of investment teams, data, and vendor management.
Accountabilities & Qualifications:
Key Responsibilities
1. Contract Management, Data Sourcing & Market Expertise
- Contribute directly to contract management, renewals, and data sourcing, taking the lead on complex or cross-team situations where requirements conflict, stakeholders are misaligned, and trade-offs require judgement
- Support vendor negotiations, trials, and onboarding activities
- Develop and apply strong knowledge of the market data landscape, including traditional and alternative data vendors, products, and pricing models, as well as CPP Investments’ existing licenses, usage, and spend to inform sourcing decisions, negotiations, and identification of duplication or gaps, or opportunities to improve value across teams
2. Stakeholder Management & Demand Alignment
- Maintain transparency on team capacity, work-in-progress, and backlog
- Facilitate prioritization where demand exceeds capacity, aligning stakeholders on sequencing, trade-offs, and expectations
- Translate stakeholder data needs into structured sourcing approaches where requirements are unclear or evolving
- Build credibility with investment teams and stakeholders through clear communication, sound judgement, and consistent delivery
3. Cross-Team Improvement & Issue Ownership
- Lead periodic partner engagement and retrospectives to identify themes and drive improvement actions
- Identify cross-team inefficiencies and drive alignment on the problem, options, and recommended course of action
- Take ownership of cross-team issues and ensure they are progressed through to resolution
- Lead root cause analysis for operational issues and ensure clear resolution and follow-up actions
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in market data, vendor management, sourcing, or contract management
- Strong experience managing contracts and working with vendors in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment
- Demonstrated ability to handle ambiguous situations and provide structure and clarity to drive outcomes
- Strong commercial judgement, including ability to assess trade-offs across cost, risk, and business needs
- Experience leading root cause analysis and driving process improvements
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Familiarity with contract lifecycle management processes and Market Data Management (MDM) tools is an asset
- Knowledge of investment market data, including vendor landscape and common data use cases, is an asset
