Foreperson – Civil Utility Underground

About the role:

• Supervise daily activities of underground utility crews (operators, pipelayers, laborers)

• Plan, organize, and execute work related to watermain, sanitary, storm, and service installations

• Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and utility locates

• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, company policies, and site-specific safety plans

• Coordinate with project management, inspectors, engineers, and utility authorities

• Ensure proper shoring, trench safety, dewatering, and excavation practices

• Manage productivity, manpower, equipment, and materials on site

• Conduct daily toolbox talks and enforce safe work practices

• Monitor quality control and ensure installations meet municipal and project standards

• Complete daily reports, time tracking, and as-built documentation

• Identify and resolve site issues, conflicts, and constructability challenges

• Train, mentor, and evaluate crew members

• Maintain clean, organized, and efficient work areas

• Other duties as assigned by the Project Manager or Superintendent

About you:

• 5+ years of experience in civil underground utility construction

• Proven experience in a Foreman or lead hand role

• Strong knowledge of underground utility installation methods and materials

• Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings

• Knowledge of trench safety, shoring systems, and excavation regulations

• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

• Ability to work under pressure and meet project schedules

• Valid driver’s license

• First Aid, WHMIS, and relevant safety certifications (asset)

Work Environment

• Outdoor construction sites in varying weather conditions

• Physically demanding work environment

• May require extended hours to meet project deadlines

Salary Range:

$40-55
