SPECIALIST, COMMUNITY SCHOOLS

38G (School Support Administrator, 0515)

(Elementary Emphasis)

 

Under the supervision of the Director, Community Schools, the Specialist, Community Schools works with administrators, teachers, staff, and community partners in implementing a standards-based, culturally relevant, and social justice focused curriculum for TK-12 students at designated Community Schools.

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops instructional and professional learning materials related to culturally relevant, socially just, and responsive teaching practices
  • Collaborates with other Division of Instruction departments within the District, as well as labor partners
  • Serves as a consultant in developing, implementing, interpreting, and coordinating curriculum audits at school sites
  • Serves as a consultant to Instructional Leadership Teams (ILTs), Community School Initiative Team (CSIT), and Local School Leadership Committee (LSLC)
  • Prepares reports based on analysis of the gathered data to inform instructional practice and site Implementation Plans
  • Prepares communications relating to the instructional program in K-12 Community Schools
  • Conducts school visits to assess the needs of students, teacher, Community Schools coordinator, Community Schools community representative, Meaningful Teaching and Learning coaches, and administrators

CONTINUED - PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves in a lead capacity in support of all Community Schools professional development
  • Serves in a lead capacity in support of initiative events: recruitment, onboarding, site tours, and other special events
  • Supervises and supports the evaluation of the Community Schools Initiative coaches and the instructional advisor
  • Serves as a liaison with the Black Student Achievement Plan and Educational Transformation Office to align instructional practices, professional development, and assessment strategies across the initiatives
  • Serves as a liaison with the Student, Family, and Community Engagement Office to align professional development and family engagement strategies for Community School community representatives
  • Performs other duties as assigned

SALARY:

Salary: 38G, (School Support Administrator, 0515) – E Basis ($117,509 – $146,277) – 234 paid days

  • In the case of an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least five (5) years of successful, full-time public school certificated teaching experience in an elementary, middle, or high school
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • A valid California K-12 teaching credential requiring a bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, that included student teaching
  • An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
  • Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework*

Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • General knowledge and appreciation for the Community Schools Initiative
  • Training in Equitable Grading and Instruction (EGI)
  • Strong curricular knowledge and experience teaching multiple subjects
  • Knowledge of standards-based instruction including instructional resources and effective teaching methodologies
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, subject matter integration, Community-Based Learning, Linked Learning and/or Career Technical Education (CTE), and restorative practices
  • Knowledge and understanding of instructional strategies, including Integrated ELD and Designated ELD that promote access to core content and accelerated achievement of English learners
  • Knowledge of the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Framework
  • Knowledge of the LAUSD Strategic Plan, the California state standards, District pacing plans, and adopted curriculum

CONTINUED - DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in designing and delivering professional development using adult learning theory
  • Demonstrated willingness to take on additional duties and leadership responsibilities as assigned
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a collaborative, diverse environment
  • Interpersonal skills and facilitation strategies to guide individuals toward task accomplishment
  • Leadership skills in facilitating group processes, including consensus building and conflict resolution
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school administrators, instructional staff, parents, and community partners
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic, disability, and socioeconomic groups
  • Ability to travel to multiple sites throughout the District
