
Sparrow Field Technician I

Sparrow field technicians will be working under the supervision of Adrienne Kovach and a graduate student in the Kovach lab, in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment. Technicians will have ornithological field skills, include banding and nest searching, as well as general field experiences. Sparrow field technicians will have responsibilities of conducting monitoring, including mist nesting, banding and nest and vegetation monitoring, following systematic protocols provided by supervisors. This is a summer only position and is essential during this time period.
Duties/Responsibilities
Mist-netting and banding tidal marsh sparrows.
Searching for and monitoring nests.
Collecting nest vegetation data.
Leading a crew of 1-3 other field technicians and coordinating with the supervising graduate student.
Data entry in the field, as well as into provided databases, including with data proofing.
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience
Bachelors degree or in progress (i.e. currently enrolled or graduated).
Required Licenses & Certifications
Banding resume.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Experience with bird banding, mist-nesting and nest searching.
Experience working in the field .
Preferred Qualifications
Prior leadership experiences.
Drivers license.
Compensation Pay Range
$19.00-$22.00/Hour
