Job Description

As a condition of employment all employees must pass a post offer criminal history background check, physical examination and drug screen. All employees must also submit proof of identity and employment eligibility.

Summary of the Position:

Maintenance Tech I performs a variety of maintenance and repair tasks on public infrastructure, parks, and aquatic facilities. Responsibilities include carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and facility upkeep. The position also assists with irrigation system repairs, aquatic facility maintenance, and seasonal tasks such as snow removal.

General Overview of Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair structures or facilities, including electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting, and masonry tasks.

  • Perform maintenance and repair tasks on pool, splash pads, and related aquatic facility systems.

  • Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems.

  • Operate and maintain a variety trade-related tools, including hand tools, power equipment, and maintenance vehicles.

  • Assist with maintenance and repairs of playground equipment under the direction of certified personnel, ensuring safety and functionality.

  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain organized records of inspections and repairs.

  • Obtain prices for equipment or materials as directed.

  • Clean, service, perform minor repairs on assigned tools, equipment, and machinery.

  • Operate or drive a variety of specialized equipment utilized in assigned projects.

  • Perform seasonal duties, including winterization of park facilities.

  • Remove trash and debris from work areas, parks and public spaces.

  • Assists with snow removal as needed.

  • Perform other responsibilities as required or assigned.

Knowledge:

  • Basic understanding of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC and masonry work.

  • Awareness of workplace safety procedures and regulations.

  • Ability and willingness to learn irrigation system maintenance and repair.

  • Ability and willingness to learn pool, splash pad, and water feature maintenance.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Ability to perform manual labor tasks in outdoor settings and various weather conditions, including lifting, bending, pulling, and operating equipment.

  • Valid Kansas driver’s license and acceptable driving record per the Unified Government’s Human Resources Driver Safety, Accident Reporting, and Vehicle Use policy throughout employment with the Unified Government

  • Must possess or obtain a Kansas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with air brakes within six months of hire.

  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in facility maintenance, construction, or related fields.

  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, or irrigation systems.

  • Experience working with pools, splash pads, or water feature maintenance.

  • Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) Certification

All applicants for this position who do not presently hold a safety sensitive position with the Unified Government will be required to submit to a drug test after successful bid and before actual appointment.

This position is regulated by the US Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and is subject to all drug and alcohol testing regulations as identified in 49 CFR Part 40, as amended, and 49 CFR Part 382, as amended.

Salary Range:

$25.72/hr.
