Cobol Developer

Overview:
As an IT ABS Developer, you work hand in hand with the business analysts to turn requirements into robust COBOL code that runs on the ABS platform. You use AI assisted code analysis and refactoring tools to quickly understand existing modules, spot improvement opportunities, and inject modern patterns without breaking business logic. By mapping the functional specifications to the codebase, you identify all impacted components and help design comprehensive unit and integration tests that feed into the team test pipeline. You stay active in the agile ceremonies ensuring the team delivers on each release. You consistently encourage the adoption of new technologies such as AI driven data validation, CI/CD pipelines and modern monitoring to keep the legacy system secure, performant, and future ready.

What will you do?

• Translate business needs into clear technical specs and develop/maintain legacy COBOL code.
• Use AI assisted tools to understand, refactor, and safely modify impacted components.
• Build and keep unit/integration test suites; support acceptance test planning and execution.
• Participate in the agile ceremonies to meet the team objectives set in each Quarterly Agile Plan.
• Support the team in adopting modern tooling – introduce AI driven data validation, CI/CD pipelines, and advanced monitoring to enhance system security and performance.
• Document changes, manage version control, and ensure compliance with security and regulatory standards.

What are we looking for?

• 4+ years of relevant professional experience.
• Expertise in Microfocus COBOL.
• Familiarity with PowerHouse (4GL) and/or Eloquence (Marxmeier) technologies.
• Hands on experience with DevOps tools (e.g., Ansible, ToolChain) and Git version control.
• Background in the financial sector.
• Experience working in Agile environments.
• English – Expert (good written and spoken English).
• Portuguese – Expert.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced global environment.
• Team player capable of high performance, flexibility and adaptability.
• Clear & objective communication.
