About the Opportunity

This is an open position with the FirstEnergy Pennsylvania Electric Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, an employee in this position is expected to perform a variety of duties in accordance with the company’s customer service policies to encourage the collection of delinquent accounts.

  • Adheres to all safety rules and guidelines as established by the company.
  • Communicates effectively with customers regarding delinquent account balances, provides information on payment arrangements in accordance with the company’s customer service policies and where applicable, disconnects/or reconnects the electric service.
  • Initiates customer referrals to Customer Assistance & Referral Evaluation Services (CARES) representatives for counseling, payment assistance and regulatory/company programs.
  • Maintains, complies and balances daily customer transactions and adheres to the documented cash handling procedures. 
  • Verifies the accuracy of data entered on checks and stubs, prepares cash handling forms and forwards to appropriate personnel for processing.
  • Documents and informs supervision of adverse safety conditions regarding meters, meter sockets, electric services and lines, meter tampering and like conditions.
  • Trains and instructs other employees as required.
  • Performs other related or less skilled work as required or directed, including the operation of transportation equipment upon occasion or in the event of an emergency.
  • Requires the ability to work multiple districts and scheduled hours, which may be non-standard business hours, to allow greater ability to communicate with customers and maximize the opportunity to increase the regional revenue collected.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED with equivalent work-related experience.
  • Ability to work safely and follow applicable safety rules relative to work assignment or related field experience is a requirement.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Operating Company's service areas, and knowledge of basic electricity is considered a plus.
  • Meet Company standards regarding physical fitness, personal conduct and appearance, attendance, work performance, safety practices, and supervision required.
  • Manual dexterity to operate handheld devices and accurately input information, ability to do considerable walking or driving, ascend and descend steps and ladders, work in all weather conditions and to navigate across rough terrain.
  • Ability to lift and carry more than 25 pounds. 
  • Ability to read and report meter data accurately, read and take appropriate action based upon reports and work orders, deal with customers and the public in a professional and courteous manner. 
  • Ability to deal with potentially dangerous animals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and operate two-way radios, telephones, cellular phones, and other communication devices and write legibly and maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Must have the ability to organize work, plan routes and maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Must be receptive to feedback and measurement.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license and appropriate vehicle insurance is required.
