SUMMARY

The primary purpose of this role is to advance and elevate the City of Charlotte’s Belonging & Engagement strategy and Initiatives by connecting and assisting city staff and leaders with services such as training, consultancy, resource groups, and outcomes reporting.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Training

  • Assist with developing and conducting issue specific training modules to advance understanding across the organization.
  • Assist in developing training strategies to advance employee belonging and engagement.


Outcomes Data Tracking

  • Assist in tracking the City of Charlotte’s Inclusion Training efforts and participants.
  • In coordination with the Innovation & Technology Data Team, work with the Belonging & Engagment Initiative Manager to identify and track belonging and engagement outcome measures across the organization.
  • Maintain records, files, documents and develop and maintain key metrics and data regarding initiative progression for internal and external audits.


Initiative Coordination

  • Support the development and implementation of identity-based Employee Resource Networks
  • Edit/publish an annual calendar of culturally significant dates for the organization
  • Organize, participate in, and coordinate events to celebrate and/or bring awareness to culturally important dates and history months.

Cross Department Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively across City departments on the implementation of inclusion initiatives.
  • Steward a steering team of City employees to guide participation in community events such as Charlotte Pride, Hola Festival, the Martin Luther King Jr Day Parade, the Dragon Boat Festival, among others.
  • Represent the Belonging & Engagement Team on cross-organizational teams as identified, such as serving as liaison to the City’s ADA and Language Access implementation teams.


Administrative

  • Manage administrative duties and financial activities for the Belonging & Engagement Initiatives Team, including processing invoices and purchase orders, submitting and monitoring contracts, reconciling purchasing cards, and completing travel reimbursement.
  • Manage logistics to include handling training events and meetings ranging in size from individual classes to ongoing initiative sessions.  Such logistics include classroom and equipment set up, food purchases and prep, ordering materials and supplies, and process corresponding invoices.
  • Assist with marketing and communications materials for the Belonging and Engagement Initiatives Team activities such as monthly newsletters, PR for Initiatives, etc.
  • Conduct other duties as assigned by the Belonging and Engagement Initiatives Manager. 

Preferred Qualification

  • Experience in conflict management
  • Experience developing teams and coaching
  • Effective facilitation and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated experience in initiative development, coordination, and measurement
  • Experience with financial systems, including procurement cards and MUNIS, preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work across lines of difference and with multiple demographic groups including but not limited to BIPOC communities, LGBTQ+ communities, disability communities, newcomer, and immigrant communities, etc, strongly preferred

Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent and three years of relevant work experience.

Requires the ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences through an assortment of mediums, written reports, presentations, and open discussion settings

Working Conditions
Work is performed in an indoor environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions; moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as officers, community members, victims etc.); and frequent exposure to computer screens, files and phones.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
