Drilling Engineer I
Location: Anchorage, Alaska
Position: Full-Time, Regular
Position Summary
Fairweather is seeking a motivated Drilling Engineer I to join our Drilling & Projects team
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to develop technical and operational expertise while supporting the planning, execution, and evaluation of drilling and well construction projects throughout Alaska
Working under the guidance of senior drilling engineers, the successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in well planning, field operations, cost control, and drilling engineering while contributing to safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist with well planning, drilling programs, casing design, cementing, hydraulics, directional drilling plans, and other engineering deliverables.
- Support preparation of AFEs, cost estimates, drilling schedules, and daily engineering reports.
- Monitor drilling performance and assist in analyzing operational data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Provide engineering support during drilling operations and assist with troubleshooting technical issues under the direction of senior engineers.
- Maintain compliance with company HSE standards, well integrity requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with drilling contractors, service companies, and internal project teams to support successful project execution.
- Participate in procurement activities by assisting with equipment specifications, material tracking, and contractor coordination.
- Conduct field visits to active drilling locations throughout Alaska, including remote and North Slope operations, to gain operational experience, support field personnel, and observe drilling activities firsthand
Travel to drilling locations is an expected component of this position.
- Participate in end-of-well reviews, lessons learned meetings, and technical documentation.
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development through mentoring, technical training, and field experience.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or another accredited engineering discipline.
- 3–5 years of drilling engineering, oil and gas, or related engineering experience.
- Internship, co-op, or field experience in drilling, completions, production, or construction is preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with engineering software is beneficial.
- Willingness to travel to remote Alaska drilling locations and work safely in field environments.
