Why it's a great opportunity: In this role as an IT Systems Engineer 2, you will support the County’s modern hybrid technology environment, with a strong focus on data center operations, IT facility infrastructure, and mission-critical systems. You will serve as a key technical contributor within the Platform Services unit, supporting County data centers, MDF/IDF rooms, power and cooling systems, UPS and PDU infrastructure, environmental monitoring, structured cabling, physical security, DCIM tools, asset documentation, and infrastructure modernization efforts.

How to be successful in the role: Your success will come from being a collaborative, technically curious problem solver with experience supporting enterprise data centers or large-scale IT facilities, coordinating with Facilities Management, vendors, contractors, telecommunications providers, and internal IT teams while ensuring architecture, security, operational, and change management standards are met. Supporting nearly 1,000 County technology solutions, contributing to highly available public services, participating in infrastructure projects and lifecycle planning, and growing professionally within an innovative, people-focused IT organization committed to teamwork, continuous improvement, inclusion, and direct community impact will further ensure your success.

Core daily responsibilities:
- Provide skilled design, implementation and operational support for all Pierce County data centers and IT equipment rooms including facility power, UPS, cooling, humidity control, fire and safety systems, racking, cabling management, and security.
- Participate in technical strategic planning and implementation of new data center technologies to assure County’s uptime needs are continually met.
- Participate in technical strategic planning and implementation of new data center technology standards within expertise areas.
- Perform full range of skilled technical and analytical functions for critical data center and operational support.

- Additional education or experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements.
- Four or more years of information technology experience is required.
- A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in information technology, computer sciences, business, public administration or related field.
