Job Description
DUTIES:
1. Develop Ethics, Spiritual and Religious Care education initiatives and programs to promote awareness, knowledge, and skills for staff, medical and inter-professional learners, and external partners.
2. Supervise, recruit and educate members of the HSN ethics facilitation team.
3. Support the enhancement of HSN’s moral climate through assessing the ethical culture and developing organizational ethics resources (e.g. facilitation team, management policies, decision-making frameworks, and resource allocation strategies).
4. Provide ethics support to committees within HSN as required (e.g. ethics, organ and tissue donation, critical care, incident command).
5. Manage the Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) provision team that ensures provincial, professional and legal responsibilities are maintained.
6. Provide consultation and guidance to patients, families, contract providers, staff, or physicians on patient-specific ethics issues, hospital management, and governance issues.
7. Direct the work of the Spiritual and Religious Care and MAiD Navigation team at HSN.
8. Manage human resources which include: recruitment, selection and training.
9. Guide, motivate, monitor and supervise staff, develop standards of performance, evaluate performance and make recommendations on disciplinary action as required.
10. Develop annual budgets and assume fiscal accountability of the departmental operation according to approved budget.
11. Oversee the work of others in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), its regulations, and HSN policies.
12. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
13. Participate in the accreditation process and work to ensure that the program and HSN achieve, maintain and continually improve upon their accredited status.
14. Teach, coach and lead staff in the development and monitoring of quality indicators and improvement initiatives.
15. Engage in and foster professional development of all staff and provide opportunities for learning within budgeted resources.
16. Ensure a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors; investigate report, debrief and take or direct corrective action as required on incidents.
17. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders/organizations/community groups to achieve program objectives, integrate and link services and foster partnerships across the continuum of service delivery.
18. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
19. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
