About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate Pastoral Practitioner to join Uniting’s Mission Directorate on a casual basis (2 days per week).
Based in Ashfield in Sydney’s Inner West, this role provides pastoral and spiritual care at Uniting Abrina.
The role focuses on supporting residents of Chinese cultural background, providing culturally sensitive and spiritually meaningful care while working closely with residents, families, and staff.
As part of the Chaplaincy and Pastoral Practice team, you will contribute to the spiritual well-being of residents and support Uniting’s mission of care, compassion, and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide person-centred pastoral and spiritual care to residents, families, and staff
- Deliver religious care within the Christian faith tradition, while respecting people of all beliefs
- Support residents in hospital when required
- Maintain pastoral care documentation within the iCare system
- Build strong relationships with residents, families, staff, and volunteers
- Participate in supervision, reflective practice, and professional development
- Contribute positively to the Chaplaincy and Pastoral Practice team and Mission Directorate
About You
You are a compassionate and culturally aware pastoral practitioner who is committed to supporting the spiritual well-being of older people.
You will bring:
- Fluency in Cantonese and Mandarin, with strong English communication skills
- Relevant pastoral or theological study
- Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or willingness to undertake CPE
- Understanding of the spiritual and pastoral needs of older people
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Empathy and sensitivity when supporting vulnerable people
- Understanding of the difference between religion and spirituality
- Basic awareness of a range of faith traditions
A graduate qualification in a related discipline will be highly regarded.
Mandatory Requirements
- Working With Children Check (WWCC) required
- This role is a Mandatory Reporter under Uniting’s Protecting Children and Young People Policy.
